Oil pump seal steps
Oil pump seal steps
Seeking opinions. D17A2
Can I get the oil pump off without taking off the timing belt? Take off the pulley and bottom cover. Mark the belt. Get the tensioner in place, Shove it out of the way. Can I just Do the pump and not have to take the whole top of the engine apart?

Re: Oil pump seal steps
Service manual wants the belt removed. Can you even get to the tensioner without removing the engine mount? I thought it was completely covered underneath. I've never tried but I'm leaning towards it not being possible without at least removing the mount. That requires removing the alternator, which needs the PS pump out of the way. At that point you're half way there. All for a $2 O-ring
Re: Oil pump seal steps
Did the job this weekend all good. I did not have to go as far as removing the engine Mount. The timing belt will be slack enough with a 6mm Allen and a little wiggling.
I documented the steps. gonna post them here for posterity. FYI 17lb torque is too much for the take up tube bolts. Broke that.

Great write-up! Moved to it's own thread in the DIY section. Link below.

For reference, the torque spec for the oil pick up tube bolts/nuts is 7.2 lb-ft.
