Oil pump to block seal replacement steps

Civic Oil seal job 7th gen automatic

Set out all sockets, flat screwdrivers, pliers, rags, washtubs and cleaners, sealant, notes, sharpie.

Rags and boxes on floor for parts as you go

New parts on separate table

Bag everything and label carefully.

Be gentle with wires.

Move quick don’t rush stay warm and fed.


Top engine off

Disconnect battery negative side.

Remove air cleaner and sensor wire, losen gasket to throttle body.

Remove harness and coils

Remove bracket under air cleaner

remove power steering pump and reservoir and belt

Loosen alternator and remove belt

Remove valve cover watch the helicoil on pass side

Cover cam assembly with plastic or foil

Remove top timing cover and cam sensor wire


Front engine off

Jack car kinda high. Block wheels. Set parking brake.
Remove front driver wheel and plastic wheel well crap
*Set engine and cam to TDC*

Remove crank pulley with special tool and breaker bars
Remove bottom timing cover and crank sensor
Retract belt tensioner as far as possible with 6mm Allen and set with a nail or bent coat hanger or whatever
Remove timing sprocket and woodruff key and washer and move timing belt outta the way.


Underside off

Dump oil
Remove exhaust oxygen sensor wires.

Remove exhaust pipe bolts.

Drop it to the floor and get it far aside.

Remove whatever hangs it up.
Remove pan girdle brackets, trans shift covers and cable and lock washer with a razor blade, remove nasty inspection cover. Check for oil splash.
Remove oil pan. Try and pry and cry.
Remove oil take up, screws on block and pump

Remove oil pump

Breathe. Smoke. Have a drink. Get a snack. Take a nap.

Clean clean clean


Using brake cleaner and goof off, plastic brush, and razor blades. (Gasoline/kerosene if necessary)
Clean pan mating surfaces

Clean oil pump and take up tube

**Remove crank seal ring from oil pump

Check pump sealing curve that mates with the oil pan for etch and Polish with superfine sandpaper if necessary

Clean front of block mating surface and timing belt and all around timing path

Clean bottom of block mating surface.

Clean valve cover and inspect/replace plug seals

Clean top of block mating surface of old sealant In corners

Clean timing belt and paths from any oils

Reassembly


Oil pump on

Replace oil pump o ring
Apply black sealer to oil pump mating surface and a little around o ring and reinstall 4 oil pump to block. Must align with crankshaft! , torque bolts to 9lb
Install take up tube gasket with a little black sealant and take up tube bolts to RFT.
Install take up bolts to engine RFT

Oil pan on

Apply black sealer and install oil pan:
Tighten the bolts in two or three steps. In the final step, tighten all bolts, in sequence, to 12 nm (8.7 lbf·ft).


Torque spec

Ft-lb

Oil pick up tube bolts..............................RFT

Oil Pump to engine block bolts/nuts...........9

Oil Pump Screen bolts..............................RFT

Oil pump cover Screws.............................RFT

Breathe. Smoke. Get a drink or snack.

Install inspection cover, trans shift cable, covers, and girdles. Torque to spec

Install exhaust bolts and attach pipe hanger

Replace whatever was hanging it up.

Install oxygen sensor wire


Timing on

Install crank seal, washer, sprocket and timing belt. Keep timing correct.

—-If necessary this is where you need to jack engine and remove the alternator and top engine bracket to loosen the spring and bolt on the tensioner. I did not have to. But if you do, Accept your fate and continue quickly

**check timing mark slot on sprocket to mark on oil pump to camshaft tdc**


Temp install crank pulley mark the bottom circle with white

***check timing 2 then another 2 revolutions counterclockwise until white mark is at center bottom and ensure cam is still TDC***

Remove crank pulley and inspect timing mark on sprocket for alignment. Reset and repeat if necessary.

Ensure torque on tensioner bolt 30lb

Pull the pin and/or replace spring to tension timing belt

—-if necessary reinstall the engine bracket and alternator now. Remove engine jack.

install crank sensor and bottom cover and wire

Install crank pulley with special tool

***Crankshaft bolt 14 lb and an additional 90°

Breathe. Smoke. Get a drink or snack.

Top engine on

Install top timing cover and cam sensor wire
Set gasket into valve cover

Put black sealant in corners and install valve cover

Beware of any helicoils

Valve cover bolts *center first, gently in stages until set light torque

Install air cleaner bracket

Install alternator belt and tension it and lock down mounting bolts

Install power steering and reservoir and belt and tension it

Install wiring harness and plug coils and throttle cables.

Install air cleaner

Final

Check under engine for all correct. Torque oil drain plug.
Install plastic wheel well crap

Install wheel and wheel lug nuts snug.
Jack it all down. Unblock wheels. Release parking brake. Torque lug nuts 80lb.

Have dinner. Drink. Smoke. Goto bed. Say your prayers.

Let all liquid gasket set 24 hours or at least overnight.

Fill with oil. Reconnect battery. Start it up and idle 10 min.

Shut it off.

Start it up again and shake it down.
