why would you have to run at a higher octane?

How does octane have anything to do with a CEL caused by not having a cat?

His set-up is the same as you guys.

Guys with LX Kamakaze headers run with no cat and it is said they have to run 89+ octane - probably to prevent throwing a CEL or getting crappy performance.

Hah he's right, but instead of higher octane I put a valvoline fuel system cleaner in and the light went out.

I felt an improvement in acceleration as well.

I have highflow cat and my cel has only come on on a few occasions since I've had the setup for like 2 months now. It hasn't come un in three weeks on 87 octane.

Oh well. This fix probably truly states the fact that even with similar mods, every car is different. You could try the Valvoline Fuel System Cleaner.

The downpipe/cat is the same a Megan Racing's. Even Focuz has put their name on the same part. I wouldn't be surprised if all of these parts were manufactured by the original no name company.
Hate to bring this post out of the dead but that is not what my header looks like. Mine looks like a DC Sports Acura Integra Race Header with the 4-1 long tubes. My header stops underneath the car not at the factory spot...I do not have a down pipe.

My car doesn't smell that bad nor does the dp rattle. My car does rattle against my heatshield but its the 2.5 " custom exhaust piping hitting it. Who installed your dp? Also, I got a CEL the first day I had it then no CEL at all. Its been over 2 months since the install too.

i know the dowpipe is the same in and out but not sure if the civic one is 2.25 but the si one is 2.5. I would assume its 2.25 for the civic. 2.5 is too big for a civic, to much back pressure would be lost. Just my opinion

stock downpipe should be around 1.75" or near there. thats the same adjustment guess for the OEM exhaust too

i got megan downpipe and no rattles from it. only vibration is the exhaust driving under puddle water
