Headlamp on buzzer/chime - Where is it?
Headlamp on buzzer/chime - Where is it?
I tried a search on this topic, but did not turn up anything. The alarm, buzzer, beeper, chime, or whatever it might be called to indicate you left the headlights on does not work in my daughter's 2001 LX Sedan.
I looked for the part online to give me an idea of where the sound should be coming from, but I can't find it.
Does someone know where the alarm device is located?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Headlamp on buzzer/chime - Where is it?
Dome light work from drivers door when open ?? Key in ignition, drivers door open warning work ??
Rubber covered plunger switch (drivers side) is 1st place I'd look.

The dome light was burned out and I just barely replaced that. Are you saying the bulb being out would cause the buzzer to not work?
Maybe I just need to try it again now that the bulb has been replaced?

The beeper is built into the gauge cluster and is controlled by a CPU.
The same beeper is used for lights reminder, key reminder, seat belt reminder, and maybe more.
Start with a cluster self diagnostic test, the beeper should make noise during the self test.

Re: Headlamp on buzzer/chime - Where is it?
Yes and yes. The dome light turns on when the driver's door is opened, and the beeper sounds when you put the key in and turn to ignition on. I did not realize it was the same beeper. So the beeper works. Just not when I leave the lights on and try to exit the car.
Any other ideas on what could be wrong?

Re: Headlamp on buzzer/chime - Where is it?
Well.......... The MICU is seeing the drivers side plunger switch, and is capable of driving the piezo buzzer. Not good signs.
Will look around.
So...your front and rear markers, tails and license lights as well as nighttime dash illumination is working correctly when lights are on,
Yes ??

Without going outside and checking all of that (I am currently at work), I can verify that the stop light in the rear deck works with the brakes (I can see the glow at night), and the dash lights are working. If all of the above is on the same fuse, I would say it is intact.
If you need me to verify the other lights as well, I can check those later.

Re: Headlamp on buzzer/chime - Where is it?
Your dimmable dash illumination would be a good clue, (HVAC controls and buttons) and take a peek at license plate lights with them on.
Good news, you can make your own warning system pretty easily with a few parts.
Edit: Not sure what happened with OP but their symptoms were similar to yours. (I'm copytech)

Re: Headlamp on buzzer/chime - Where is it?
OP, are you checking for the headlight reminder beep under the correct condition?
Headlights on
Key in ACC, OFF, or removed from the ignition
Drivers door open
(If the door jamb switch is bad, the feature won't be able to work)
From the owners manual:
If you leave the lights on with the
ignition switch in ACCESSORY (I)
or LOCK (0), you will hear a
reminder tone when you open the
driver’s door.

Re: Headlamp on buzzer/chime - Where is it?
Interesting. My door locks also have locked themselves like the folks from the other post describe. In fact, I got the only set of keys I had locked inside when I first got it and could not figure out how it happened. Now I know.
The key in ignition warning does not work either. I just went and loosened and tightened the mounting screw for the door switch without any joy. I will order another door switch and install it. The folks in the other post reported that their dome light would light, but the warning chime would not sound. Somehow swapping driver/passenger side switches fixed it. I can't wrap my head around that, but I will try replacing the switch.
I will let you know how it turns out.

Re: Headlamp on buzzer/chime - Where is it?
If you start the car and then shut it off, the second you take the key completely out, the dome light should come on. (A test of that switch)
With your drivers door open, you should get warning sound when key is inserted.
Re: Headlamp on buzzer/chime - Where is it?
You had me thinking there for a minute, and you could still be right. But... if I have the door re-lock issue, that would not be dependent on the "key in ignition" switch.
Am I right?

Key in ignition with door open also does not make it chime/beep.

Re: Headlamp on buzzer/chime - Where is it?
I really only wanted you to understand why the doors can relock on their own. The keyless system did it because it never "saw" the door open.
Key in ignition with door open also does not make it chime/beep.
Swap a working jamb switch from one of the other doors until you can get a new one?

Re: Headlamp on buzzer/chime - Where is it?
That confuses me too. It is getting enough of a ground to turn the dome light on, but not enough to tell the computer that the door is open. It is hard for me to understand that. Others seem to have had a similar experience though. I will report back after I put a new door switch in.

Re: Headlamp on buzzer/chime - Where is it?
Or maybe you have a multiplex unit taking a poop. The door jamb switch is an input to that unit, and it controls a whole boatload of stuff.
Any other strange electrical faults? Make a list of everything you can think of and see if they all have a common denominator?
Got shop manual that covers testing and diagnosis for the multiplex system?

Re: Headlamp on buzzer/chime - Where is it?
iirc the early 7ths did have some known micu issues.
The OP over at AF with similar situation (would imagine the CR-V and Civic multiplex is similar) never came back, and likely wont.

Re: Headlamp on buzzer/chime - Where is it?
As promised, I am reporting back on this issue. The new door switch solved the problem. I now get a patterned tone when the key is in the ignition, and a solid tone when the headlights are on (and the door is open).
I examined the faulty switch and discovered that the backside had come loose. I pushed it back together and heard an audible "click" and it stayed tightly together. The plunger also extended further out after this "fix." My guess is that this would have fixed the issue without replacing the switch.
