Re: Dome light will not go out after closing door
The MICU unit in under-dash fuse box provides the grounding path/control (when in "door" position) grounding is provided at switch when in "on" position.

Hate to ask the obvious, but is the dome switch in the 'door' position?
Re: Dome light will not go out after closing door
nothing wrong with asking any question about issue , obvious or not
I had dome switch in center pole position [ door position ? ] - not on or off [ either end ]
I have another civic [ 05 ] and think the dome light goes out pretty quick after I exit the car
i did not wait too long for the 04 - thought it should go out after a minute or so.

Re: Dome light will not go out after closing door
Just looked in service info real quick, I didn't see any time spec for that particular situation.
Does the dome light turn off when you turn the ignition switch (key) on (all doors closed)?
Start engine, shut it off, remove key. Don't open any doors.
Does the light come on when you remove the key from the ignition (do not open any doors)--- then go back out after about 10 seconds since you didn't open any doors?
(Compare these to your other car!) Is your other car identical?
What car is this one? EX/LX/coupe/sedan etc?
Open and close a door......I know the light stays on longer if the doors stay unlocked on most of the cars, and I think if you use the remote to lock it after you close the doors, the light should go out almost immediately.
Do you maybe have one of the doors not closing all the way (or a bad jamb switch stuck on)? Does the horn beep when you hit the fob lock button 3x?
The service manual has a ton of testing for the multiplex and entry light control system. Are there any other mysterious electrical gremlins that may be connected to the multiplex system?
Does the car have aftermarket remote/locks/alarm/remote starter? That might be one of the first things to suspect.

Re: Dome light will not go out after closing door
On my 05 LX the dome would time out after about 4-5 mins if the door was left open.
That would be a good test.
Did your dome light fade out after closing last door when it was operating correctly ??
What trim level are these ?? (may not effect)

My dome lights come on immediately I remove the key from ignition (with doors still shut) and goes off after some seconds.
Is this normal? I drive a 2007 Honda CR-V
