"Lights On" alert sound not working or dome light

My girlfriend has a 2001 Civic EX, and the alert sound that comes on when the headlights are left on stopped working, and the dome light doesn't come on when the driver's door is opened. The light comes on when the passanger door is opened however... Does anyone have any ideas on this? I have a haynes manual but I cannot find it in the book.
Thanks!

check the driver door trigger. maybe the ground got rusty or you just need a new piece.

That is what I figured but I don't know how to check it. On all the cars I've seen it was just a button that got pushed but the Civic doesn't have a button.

im pretty sure it does. open door and look around the latch area. there is a black rubber nipple thing that pushes in. pry open the round part below and there is a hidden screw that grounds it to the chassis.

I fixed it. I was looking toward the front of the car's door jam, and it was in the back. One of the snaps broke off so it fell in. I managed to fish it out and it works fine now. Thanks!
