Just hooked up some subs. Question.
Just hooked up some subs. Question.
I just hooked up a brand new amp to a brand new sub. As soon as I plugged the fuse in I could see smoke coming from the amp. I quickly pulled the fuse and checked the wiring and the levels (the bass boost was all the way up). Turned the bass boost all the way down, reinstalled fuse, hoped it wasn't blown. Everything is working fine now but should I be worried about the fact that I made smoke come out of my amp?
Re: Just hooked up some subs. Question.
something burned or melted i couldn't really tell you exactly what happened other then its not suppose to do that obviously . as for future problems i couldn't tell you that either but if its under warranty return it tell them it started smoking maybe they will give you a new one if not maybe buy one of those little fire extinguishers just in case.

Re: Just hooked up some subs. Question.
This burning of the amp thing I have seen before. And ill tell you now that that amp is ****ed. What has happened is the bypass switch which is normally controlled by the fuse regulator has malfunctioned. The smoking is not for sure supposed to happen and thats why you have bypass switch connection to the fuses. The fuses are intended to do more than keep you from blowing you friggin car windows out and such crazy stuff. The bypass switch has two , usualy multi chanel connections which are regulated by the fuses so the 12 volt current doesnt fry your ****.
The regulator of the fuse was not operating correctly and the total amount of current went straight to the bypass switch ports. The sound or operation you are getting from that amp is not going to last as the connections are now fused by saudering solution loosly and will melt and come unattached if you crank the bass boost up for any given period of time.
Primaraly, what has happened is you actually have a good amp that is now crap. The fuse isnt blown because the connection or its intended relation to the bypass is not present. I say you have a good amp because that bitch didnt blow from the power conversion without the fuse. It is likely an issue of faulty manufacturing and sucks for you cause you are out of luck.

Now I know this because in 2001 I had the sickest idea of hooking an amp up but forgot to install the fuses first. I had the same burning smell and smoke like you did, but because the amp was a killer, the sound still banged out of it for about 2 days before the thing went dead and I found out that Im not that efficient on weed as I might have thought. tHe fact is that many amps of higher quality have internal secondary fuse regulators and thats what your **** is running off of now.
