SMD is just the type of housing they're in, the little rectangular prisms rather than traditional cylinders. They're a more compact option compared to the traditional shape.

I don't have the real answer, but I'd say they're about the same. I imagine the SMD has much wider angle of light output then most cylinder shaped LEDs.

Re: LED Thread!

It's funny, cos in HS, SMD means... well, think dirty

But anyways, the bulb type LEDs have more light dispersion, but causing the light to have lower output
The SMD's, or Surface mounted diode's are directional and typically brighter, but less light dispersion over an area

I decided to create my own version of the LED dome lights
They're actually extremely bright i think its 18 LEDs and it lights up my entire car with out the rear dome light on. Im thinking about moving this one the to the rear dome light and putting 3 of these for the front dome light.

Re: LED Thread!

So I ordered LED's for my license lights, reverse lights, trunk light, and dome and map lights in the front. All of them are the same bulb type. I ordered these....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/160523747791...84.m1439.l2649

Granted I tried installing them last night at 10. got them into the socket of my license plate lights first. Fits perfectly, SUPER BRIGHT!!! I was feeling on top of the world at that point. Then I went to put them back where the bulb goes and sits in the lense, too big!!!

Has anyone else enountered this problem?!?!?!? Or would it just be best for me to reurn them, get my money back and buy different ones that would fit?

Speaking of which, can someone please share an ebay link with the 194 type bulbs that you bought for your lic/reverse/trunk/map/front dome lights? I would much appreciate it!

Just looking at that, i already know it's too long.

Just head over to ebay, type in T10 SMD LED
and you get lots that pop up
The biggest you can go for license plate is probably this size
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-pcs...item1e67433333

But that size wont fit the maplights

Scroll through this thread and look at my LED pictures and you'll see what fits

Looks good, but for me, i hate really bright license plate lights.

I have dim bulb type LEDs for license plate, that way the copper wont see my plates a mile away XD

I've got no reason to hide mine. But, if these are too bright, I could always put the 4 LED bulbs for the plates and a 10 LED bulb for trunk.

I imagine they would, but I won't be able to give you a definite answer till I've got my bulbs. Those would likely be very bright, maybe too bright. I'm slowly making a database of what LED bulbs are needed for the different fixtures.

Re: LED Thread!

It may be a gamble in the map lights, but for sure it'd fit in the license plates

Anyways, i finally found out what to do with my 31mm festoon LEDs that I had laying around, turns out they fit perfectly in my CR-V

Posting this again. I'd like to do my footwell lighting and cupholder lights kind of soon.

I'm 99% sure this circuit is wrong. I'd appreciate it if someone could help me out.

Would those bulbs fit in the other loactions? Reverse and trunk? If they don't fit in the map/ dome lights what would fit? I can't quite tell what kind of bulb you used in your previous posts.

The bulbs I ordered only fit into the reverse lights. It's okay, I was refunded for them and I didn't have to return them!!!

Re: LED Thread!

I also just got my rear dome light in today. I heard somewhere on here that it is a 31mm bulb, I have an 03 EX Coupe btw. Well it came in and to me it looks very small. I tried plugging it into the spot and it is too small. The lights do turn on when the positive and negative are touching their respective sides, but it is too small to stay in place. Here is a comparison of the stock bulb and the new LED

Was I correct that 31mm is the corret size or was I mistaken? Right now I have the LED in my car being held in by white electrical tape

I think if you scroll up on this thread, I mentioned that 31mm was the wrong size for the rear EX dome...

If I recall, it's a 41mm or 42mm

Re: LED Thread!

Alright after my two failed attempts at buying the right sized bulbs I'm ready to try again, but just want to run these by you guys real quick.

For the front dome/map lights, trunk light, and license plate lights I have come up with these...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-x-T...item19c7362cab

For the rear dome light I couldn't determine if it was a 41mm or 42mm bulb so I found one of each. Could anyone tell me which is correct? Here they are..

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2x-42...item20b9a7a4f4

Thank you!

Only 4 LED's? They look great for the dome/maps, but are they going to be bright enough for the plate lights?

Re: LED Thread!

You can get more, but you'd have better results with them flat mounted rather than 5 way, since there is nothing reflective inside the license plate light, instead, the plastic shroud actually acts as a diffuser.

something like this would be plenty bright enough
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2X-28...item35b5d805cd

I just have the bulb type LEDs for my license plates, I personally dont like them too bright
