LED Thread!
Re: LED Thread!
So, what's involved in switching the trunk lightbulb out for an LED strip? I just want more light in the trunk. I've never messed with any wiring aside from head units so I figured I'd ask.

check this thread out:

you gotta scroll through it a bit, i think to the 2nd page, and Kenny explains how to do it..
i love mine, and it is really easy. i put 2 strips in mine, with 15 LEDs each, and it lights up the trunk really good. and im not a huge fan of cutting things apart or taking clips off and what-not, and hookin up LEDs requires your to remove and unplug that clip thing that powers the light bulb.. but i didnt wanna cut it off in case i wanted to put my stock stuff back. so if your the same, then i can tell you how i did it. but just let me know if you need help.
this is the clip im talkin about that i didnt remove:

(that little blue thing is the clip)
anyways, just let me know.. here to help.

Re: LED Thread!
i just made this (lol) to kinda show you the other way you can do it.. so you dont have to remove or cut off the clip.

i think if i remember right, with my LEDs, the positive part of the wires was silver, and the negative is a copper color.. and they are REALLY thin.. so just be careful stripping them. but once they are stripped, just twist them together really good, and fold it over and twist it again, to make it stronger, and then basically plug it into the correct positive/negative sides of the clip. you can tell what side is what by looking at the back to see which red/black wire goes where.
its honestly not hard at all.. otherwise, if you dont mind cutting off that clip, follow the other way
let me know if you try it. i love mine. and best part is, you can get any color! lol

Not sure if this has been posted.
For anyone wanting to figure the current limiting resistor for multple LEDs, this is a great link - http://led.linear1.org/led.wiz

no prob!
let me know if u need any other help with it..
--oh, and after you "plug" in the wires, make sure to tape it up good so u wont have any problems with it comin out..

Re: LED Thread!
i was just wondering if anyone here has bought one of those thin little LED light tubes at like autozone. they are like maybe 3-4 inches long and have wires to connect em to something. i was lookin at one the other day for possibly putting it behind the steering wheel, infront of the guages, to shine towards them. (out of sight to me bc it would be behind the steering wheel).
and if u have bought one, of know what im talkin about, how did you wire it?

Re: LED Thread!
depends on your model and trim of car, and if you have moonroof or not. it either will use the 194 type bulbs and/or the festoon long tube style bulb. for the ex, front dome and map lights (3) uses all 194 bulb. the rear dome uses the festoon style (1). and the festoon is 31mm, NOT 37mm.
Re: LED Thread!
@civicchick
this is my led strip from my old car...just a 12 inch strip of leds i bought at walmart with adhesive already on it on one side and 2 wires...i wired mine into my headunit power accessory (not constant 12v which is yellow i think on ours) and one to headunit ground. MIGHT be easier to wire it into the cigarette lighter tho thats where i have my fog light switch and glowshift gauges wired to.
oh and the vent LEDs are actually a bit easier than that u can get a shorter strip of leds and stick them inside the vent after taking the climate controls out then wire them into the cigarette lighter or headunit power.

Re: LED Thread!
sweet.. thanks for the pic..
i think im just gonna have to plan a whole day to do what i want with the LED setups that i wanna do. i have a lot of ideas, but just kinda scared to start taking things apart. although, i did have an issue in my passanger side door with the lock and whatever, and if it wasnt for me taking off my door panel to do the blue fabric on the inserts, that never would have been fixed. so, it's got it's ups and downs with takin stuff apart.
i think the dude who put in my radio deck screwed something up when he did it. that piece that "pops out" aparently under the climate controls and radio area sticks out like 1/4th of an inch, and it's not supposed to. i can push it in and somethin "clicks" but it wont stay. so, if i decided to do the whole LED vent thing, i'd try and fix that too.
but anyways, thanks for that info

Re: LED Thread!
yep, im talkin about that piece around the cigarette lighter.. the deck is perfectly fine and fit where it's supposed to be, so they didnt screw that up. but im assuming it has to be the metal clip part your talking about. cuz when you push it in, you can hear something click, but it sounds like plastic on plastic and as soon as you let off, it just goes right back to where it was. where can you get one of those metal clip things? i liked everything smooth and clean lookin, and havin that stick out is killin me. lol

Re: LED Thread!
yeah i think so. two in the front map lights and one in the rear dome. all festoon. check www.sylvania.com bulb replacement guide to be sure. the festoon part starts with DE and then some numbers.

thats the kind i need for the cluster but im PRETTY sure thats the same clip...ill take a peek later and see...and ill take a pic of all the wires i have ran to the cigarette lighter power for u lol
Re: LED Thread!

ok this is the back of my cigarette lighter...i know its a bit chaotic...but honda didnt give us much slack on that wire so my suggestion is wire whatever LEDs ur gonna put in into one single wire...then splice that one wire in. just cut mine stripped the ends and put butt connectors on...but u can buy those splice connector things that crimps onto the wire and has a little metal spike that goes inside the wire and connects to ur new wire for your LEDs.

and u can see the metal clip in this picture...its the same kind of clip as the one i was missing but it might be a different size...not sure tho

Re: LED Thread!
oh yeah, i see what ur talkin about.. it's odd to me that these clip things come off so easy.. and not just here, but the clips in the door panels, the clips in the side panels on the exterior of the doors, everywhere seems to have these crappy clips. ya think they could have done a little better in that department. i had one of my little thin side panel door things come off in a car wash, went back told the guy, and he shut it off, ran in and got it.. went to honda and they sold me a little clip for like $6. stupid.
anyways, here is what mine looks like..

it only sticks out a little bit, and looks a tad different from yours, but it's enough to annoy me. lol.. but its gotta be that clip though bc its exactly where u drew that circle that it "clicks" in and out when u push it.. do u think honda sells these little clips?
thanks for the pics and everything..

Re: LED Thread!
np but wow $6??...thats crazy. im pretty sure honda sells them...but idk if they sell them individually or in a pack of 8 or something. and urs is a sedan im assuming thats why it looks different
i like those pedal covers btw lol i need some red ones
and since this IS an LED thread heres my red trunk LED...and sorry for the junk in my trunk (no pun intended)
