Wheel Well Splash Shield Removal Question
Wheel Well Splash Shield Removal Question
Hey guys, I'm installing some m3-style side mirrors with blinkers in them, and I've got a question about removing the plastic well behind my two front tires to get to the wires I need to tap. How do I do it without breaking any of the clips off so that I'm able to put it back on and it won't hang loosely?
Step 2 on the sidemarkers guide just says "pull back the splash shield":

however I'm not finding it that easy. I feel like I'm going to break the clips that are holding it onto the fender. Is there some way to remove the clips or should I really just give it a yank? I've removed almost the entirety of my car's dash and inside door panels, but I've never done anything on the exterior and I don't want my wheel well to hang down, rub my tire, and look like crap when I'm done.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Re: Wheel Well Splash Shield Removal Question
no dont yank on them. lol
im not too sure how to explain this, but the clips should either screw out or pop off. under your hood, there is, to my knowledge the same clips that hold the bumper and grille on it.

OK, I don't have a picture of what I'm about to explain, but bear with me. There should be either a screw head or two flat spots to the side of a circular center piece. If its a screw head, unscrew it. If there's two flat spots, use two small flat-head screwdrivers to pry up the "core" of the clip, and the outer part will come out easily then.
Sometimes they get worn out and hard, and there's nothing you can do but fight them. Hope this helps.

use a flat head screwdriver to pry out the middle of the clip, then the outer piece will come out.

That's what I tried to do earlier, I was just afraid that they were going to break due to the amount of force I was using. My car is in the shop having body work done (visiting home for the weekend and my mother backed into my drivers side door and kept going
), I pick it up tomorrow and I'll get on this and let you guys know if I destroy anything. Thanks for all the help. I'll bring my camera along and take some pictures and try to throw together a DIY if it goes well. Joined: Aug 2006

Re: Wheel Well Splash Shield Removal Question
Oh man, the posts in this thread are confusing and wrong. Listen to gearbox- thats exactly how to remove the clips inside the splash guard. You only need one screwdriver. Just be careful and take your time. Replacement clips can be had @ homedepot, lowes, honda, and most automotive shops if you break them.

Re: Wheel Well Splash Shield Removal Question
Heck yes! I always get my parts from the guys at hondaautomotiveparts.com They are good stuff. And the only thing better than using a flathead screwdriver to pry those guys out is using two flathead screwdrivers and just gently twisting them from side to side as the middle part slowly comes out. Then the outer part practically falls out without the middle. Those things are like a buck fifty apiece so be careful! lol
