aftermarket alarm goes off at night

It goes off for a quick 1 second noise/beep/chirp thats loud enough for me to hear. It only happens at night and it happens about 2-3 times each and every night. The alarm works fine though, for example goes off for the full amount of time when I kick the wheels.
What is this

sounds like a too-sensitive shock/tilt sensor. take it back to wherever you had it installed and have them adjust it. you don't want it so sensitive that wind or a bird landing on it will set it off. esp if it's as annoying as yours seems to be. but test it before you leave so that it's still sensitive enough to detect no-**** tampering with your ride.

i second that.

also, check your alarm grounds and if you have a backup siren battery thing, make sure it's not dead. i had an issue sort of like yours and it ended up being a ground that came loose somehow.

Re: aftermarket alarm goes off at night

I don't think its the alarm being too sensitive, since I distinctively asked for something not too sensitive. Often times I've kicked the wheels hard and that still didnt activate the alarm. Not until I really kick it with a boot or It usually takes a door or trunk getting slammed, does it go off. I also don't think wind is a factor because when parked in my garage it still went off.

so i guess, my issue could be a back up battery siren and a loose ground, i will bring that up when I bring it back to the shop, thanks

Re: aftermarket alarm goes off at night

I second those opinions. It could be a bad battery or ground. Sounds like something like that.

Re: aftermarket alarm goes off at night

wouldnt be the battery, id say a ground. when the connection (metal grounding points) are hot under the sun during the day, they'll stick together, completing the circuit. The alarm will only go off when the system is grounded, usually done by a switch or some kind of sensor. At night, the contact surface might be cold and not "stick" as well, so it grounds itself out. Its probably a loose ground wire, check to see where its routed under the dash or under the hood.

Re: aftermarket alarm goes off at night

no. they prolly did a stupid ground for the siren and put it on the bracket on a painted surface. check that and attach to a real ground.

Re: aftermarket alarm goes off at night

So I went to the shop today, the guy said something was wrong with my fuse wires and so he did something and now when I lock/unlock the car the lights, including my fogs blink on and off.
(does that waste battery life, btw?)

but anyways, I mentioned the ground wire, but he insisted something about the fuse... and to keep a long story short,
it went off tonight again, but the quick noise was a lot quieter.
Is there any chance if I don't get this fixed, it will affect my other electrical components?
thanks

Re: aftermarket alarm goes off at night

i would still check the grounds. depending on where you got it installed, i'm going to assume they just screwed a really shitty ground into the firewall or kickpanel area, and it's crimped on and the wire is hanging by a thread.

Re: aftermarket alarm goes off at night

Alright, seriously this time. What is the brand and hopefully model of the alarm we're talking about?

And if the ground was seriously shot, I'd expect the alarm to have a lot more problems than just chirping once or twice every night. I think something else is going on.

Re: aftermarket alarm goes off at night

it can change depending on the weather. if its more humid, vs dry, and also when it rains. i had the problem where something would get wet and my alarm wouldnt work at all. ended up being a bad ground.

Re: aftermarket alarm goes off at night

I'm sorry I don't know the brand. The guy told me everything was fine. I told him specifically to check the ground wires and battery.
The difference is that it only went off once and it was quieter.
