1999 Civic SI - There's a random switch and I don't know what it does - HELP
Hi there. I've been bothered by a random switch located near my mirror adjustment panel and was wondering if anyone could help me identify what exactly this switch does. I've attached a photo to help you understand where I'm talking about.
Thanks!
p.s. It's highlighted in red

Haha. I think my Si has a spot there, but mine doesn't have anything there. Lol. I'll double check once I leave for home and get back to you if someone else can't help you.

drivers' ejection seat button
- works in conjunction with the SRS air bag sensor - first it deploys the air bag, and before it deflates, it ejects you for the maximum damage possible. It will also drop the steering wheel in your lap, so you will be sheared by the seat and wheel.
Did you try pushing it?
**** Jokes aside, mine have the cruise control there (slightly different layout, though, in a 7th gen).

Thanks for the help.. Still can't find an answer to this. I bought my car off some random person who I have lost contact with and perhaps it is some modification? I'm not an expert on modifying cars so I don't really know what this switch could be if it's not oem. It's most definitely not the cruise control though.. It's basically a black switch that toggles up and down and is not labelled what so ever. I've tried driving with it up and down and both settings don't make any noticable changes.
Props for the help

let's see what melj cames up with.
most likely if it does not have any markings or indications, it's something the PO did install.

Re: 1999 Civic SI - There's a random switch and I don't know what it does - HELP
do ya have any manual for the 6th gen with other trims? they might show what could be there. Although i believe it's a radioshack switch for some shady reasons. Maybe it would warrant opening the dash to see where it is actually connected to...
Re: 1999 Civic SI - There's a random switch and I don't know what it does - HELP
3 reason i think the switch is for
1 = fog light switch ( check and see if the car have fog light or harness already connected inside the bumper, posible reason if last owner had fog light with the bumper and if theres no fog light on it now then he musta sell the fog light with bumper and traded with somone else for cash who knows)
2 = automatic trunk popper ( check trunk to see if theres any trunk pop motor
3 = alarm switch or kill switch though its a bad place to even put it there

There aren't any fittings for fog lights, no trunk motor nor does it function as a kill switch! Maybe an alarm, but I don't think that's the case either :S.
Thanks for your help, greatly appreciated. Now I have a car with a mysterious switch haha, kinda cool I guess.

take out dash and trace down the wire
6th gen bumper r all the same some will cut for fog lights
and some dont, the last owner probly had fog light and some guy came along ask for a trade for no fog bumper and u would never notice, i have mines wired up in the middle of the bumper grill
so check for any screw hole in the grill

I think asianboy781 is on the right track. It's probably for lights of some kind- either inside or out. Or it's a kill switch for the car or subs or something. All the parts lists show a blank there- for every model.

Yeah, I bought the civic with a full body kit on it so I guess the switch was for fog lights that were installed on the old bumper. Thanks

radio shack or any autoparts store switch.
activates or the ejection seat, or the guided missiles in the rear. could also activate a refreshing NOS bottle available in any convenience store.
check trunk for a storage of pikes, it could be tire pikes for pursuits.
OP, you lost contact with the PO because he was actually Sean Connery and it was his 007 car back in the day - covert OP, so they never did film the civic for the theaters.
Smoke screen made by mithbusters?
Could also activate the rear parashutes - busted by Jamie, but could work with favorable wind direction and speed.
