1996 power door locks

I just bought a 1996 Civic. It has power door locks, but it doesn't work while the door is open. I can't even lock the door with the swiveling manual lock when the door is open.

That makes it pretty much useless when exiting the car. I can only lock it with the key.

I looked at the wiring diagram and don't see a switch indicating if the door is opened or closed.

I don't know if it has keyless entry or not.

Is this normal behavior for the lock? If not, what do I need to do to fix it.

Thank you very much.

Re: 1996 power door locks

Grab either door handle (inside or outside) and pull it out, then push the lock button.
The drivers door lock is made this way, so you have to make at least 2 mistakes before locking the keys in the car LOL

So it isn't a defect, it's a feature!

Thank you very much.
