Brother's Rex Q

My brother and I are arguing which is better for his 05 WRX, the cobb asccess port or the AEM EMS. I tell him that the EMS is better, but he says the AP is better. I am trying to find out what the AP actually does and how it adjusts fuel trims and timing. Any input would be great.

Edit: I found out what it does. The AP just reflashes the ECU and uploads premade maps which are very conservative, it does not allow for tuning, unless you spend $400 on software. The EMS is definely better, but it does cost more. It is almost 2gs with a wideband, and its is like a grand for the AP with software, w/o wideband.

Go there.
If you take it to a tuner, they'll have the software and can tune through the access port easily.
You can also call Agile Automotive in Baltimore 410-628-9099, ask to talk to Hill or Jeremy, they both know their Suby **** well.

Thanks for the info. I did not like the idea of not being able to tune it yourself at all with out the software, because I was really trying to incourage him to learn about tunning. He has little interest in anything, he is only 16, but I thought it might spark somthing in him.

I am like 20-30 mins from Baltimore, will definietly give him the number. How about them Os
Damn our bullpen!

Edit: just realized your in the DC area, GO NATS GO NATS!LOL

Well if you want him to learn... I'd say get a POS with a friendly computer (OBDI or 0) and start with that. it also saves you the issue of not blowing up a WRX, which I'm guessing EJ20s don't grow on trees.
Call Agile... although they seem to prefer the Accessport from what I gather from standing around there a few times.
I also believe WRXs run widebands as the stock O2 sensor (most turbo cars these days do), so the fact that it doesn't use one, wouldn't phase me, its probably reading the stock one.
Accessport seems to me like "Kpro" for WRXs.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing about the hondata reflash. Thanks again on the info, did not even know they already have stock wideband.

Accessport has preloaded maps, EMS needs to be tuned. Based on the skill of the tuner, EMS can be better. Accessport is basically a generic tune from a reputable tuner. It is cool that you can actively switch maps while the car is on and you can download new ones when yo uget new parts instead of having to get a new tune. There are pros and cons to each. If you are SOLELY interested in power and plan on upgrading your car frequently, go EMS. You will make more power in every area with EMS and a good tuner. I'd consider a reflash and a tune over EMS though.

...those are my thoughts, ive been researching this for some time for my rex.

When the time comes he will get the AP. It is a better deal, considering he does not race. Last night he came to me and said that he did some research, and we both came to an agreement. Like you said, the ems is better, but the tune will cost a lot more so does the unit.
Thanks for the input.
