Installing Keyless Entry Harness '04 LX

Hello,

I'm helping my brother install keyless entry on an '04 LX. I once did so with my '03 Element but had OEM kit so it was an easy plug and go.

Is this job overly complicated for a novice electrician? And if not can anyone recommend an after market kit that helps simplify? Anyone have a DIY video link that helps.

Thanks for any help!

The car should already have keyless equipped from the factory.
You just need to program a correct remote to it.

Thank you fellas. That should make things much easier. I'll write back after success (or I determine he really has the DX). Much appreciated!

Hi ezone. To clarify, if he really has an LX should he have already had a wireless key fob, or is it just something he could have purchased all this time?

Yeah but people lose those things.

The LX, GX, and EX cars came with 2 fobs when it was brand new.

DX (all versions) would have manual windows and manual locks.
HX came with manual windows, and power locks but no keyless from the factory.

You can enter the VIN in an online parts catalog and determine which trim it is.

or is it just something he could have purchased all this time?
Yep, any dealership can get the correct fobs if equipped. (many online dealers have wholesale prices)

Programming the fobs is a simple DIY.

You can find several places online (ebay, et al) may have them, but be aware there are many that look alike externally and not all will work with the car.

Re: Installing Keyless Entry Harness '04 LX

If you want to make sure it has the keyless entry installed, it's forward of the center console you'd have to pop out the panel in the center where the power socket is (if it has one)

Find dealer accessory keyless installation instructions from 01-05 Civics and you can see where the unit should be located in the dash.

Re: Installing Keyless Entry Harness '04 LX

Hi I'm looking for the same thing, but for a 2003 LX (US). I bought the fob and tried to program it but it wouldn't take it presumably because it doesn't have a receiver. Anyone have an idea of what to do next? Where to get it?

You should check to see if anyone installed the (dealer installed) accessory keyless kit. See post #8 above.

EDIT: I just noticed another post that says you are in Canada? The cars up there are not always equipped the same as US spec cars, and I don't have a lot of specifics on them.
