diy: my throttle body heater bypass (pic!)
hot gasses flow better so insulating the header does make more flow but what you really want is to keep the heat in the gas and out of the metal. Wrap doesnt do that but ceramic coating like jet hot does. works real good for getting power out of bike engines and old jags

Let me ask you this? I did the mod about a week ago and I still notice my intake is hot even though it's still a bit cold here. Do you think it's the hot oil vapors coming out of the valve cover breather. I've searched on this topic and found all different answers. What do you guys think, cap the intake and put on a dump tibe or breather? It's hot right by the bend above the TB on the AEM sri.

I did the mod without the brass pipe, used the stock tube. I'm wondering about the hot air coming from the valve cover breather to the intake, it's still getting hot?

well now I don't know what to do. I asked a mechanic and he said never let coolant touch metals other than those on the car (ie aluminum). It won't corrode right away, but over time you will have metal flakes circulating in the coolant that can damage hoses, or even worse engine stuff.
I thought of a plastic tube, but wouldn't that melt? I'm back to stock now and it sucks how hot everything is, and I really wanna solution. There is NO way I can get that bottom hose off to connect the first one in a loop. There's just no space to squeeze that clamp with pliars. So I'm stuck...

about the oil vapors, I've also people say that the air moves too fast to get heated by the tb and vapors. But then again there are dynos showing big temp differences before and after so obviously it matters.

well oil vapors are fine, and actually you need to have that hose connected to pass smog. I might try one of those breathers I see all over tho just for fun. I'm getting a K&N typhoon short ram in a couple weeks anyway. I still wanna find a solution to the tb heater thing. How did you get the bottom hose off?

Dang. I just bought a brass pipe too. Looks like i'll be returning that.
How about using a larger rubber ruel hose and sticking the coolant hoses in each end? Then just use screw clamp rings to secure them together?

You can use a brass splicer from lowes or home depot in the plumbing section. its part number a-290 3/8" splicer in a yellow top bag. just connect the inlet and the outlet and use some clamp rings to hold down the pipe.
or you can take the inlet pipe to the tb and connect it from the block to the radiator outlet...but, you need really small hands to get behind the engine.
so far, those are like the best 2 options.

Dont use brass. two metals in a collant system is bad. Used to cause all kinds of problems in honda motocross bikes. napa has plastic conecters in their heater section although you might have to get them from the counter cause you will need the 3/8 size. remember heaters use hot coolant so the conecters wont melt or anything and the part is about $3
now for the bad news. Honda is way too smart for us. that big electrical plug and cylender shaped piece right behind the two fittings? its a solenoid valve. it turns off the coolant flow after the car warms up. I got bored so I looked it up on the parts computer at the dealer. If you notice, our cars have no choke plate, no enrichening circut, no additional fuel injectors. honda uses hot air to help the engine start cold but they knew enough to shut it off once the car gets warm. You might still get some heat transfering through just because the coolant is right there at the TB but its not dramatic

Did my TB heater today, I took my longer inlet hose and hooked it where the outlet hose connects back in then took my outlet hose and put both ends on the TB, also I adjusted the slack on my throttle, got an awesome response from doing both of these things, although getting the hose off behind the engine was a super big pain in the a*s, I managed to get it done. AWESOME mod, just hope it holds up in the winter here in PA. Let me know if you guys think I should change it back in the winter.

I don't know how my friend did he, he did at the Honda dealership on a lift. I think he went from the bottom like grabing the oil filter. Clean Job. By the way, I plugged my hiole in my AEM sri and ran the valve cover breather hose open, and it's a good feeling knowing only fresh air is coming in, feels good too. I wanna but a breather at the end of a piece of hose.

damn it, so many opinions. ill see if i can find a tough plastic piece. pvc pipe would work, but youll never find a 3/8 connector.
