You can get a universal heat shield from ebay that covers half the filter. I would face it so it blocks the engine side. I'll have pics in a few weeks once everything is cleaned and installed.

after reading the entire thread, I noticed a lot of u guys are worried about corrosion do to using metal pipes to join the hoses. Well, I had this mod for about 1 year and a half and I thought to myself, omg I am going to damage my engine so I went out and took it off and to my surprise...no corrosion. The piece of pipe looks nice and clean on the inside. The only corrosion (more like color change) was on the threading on the outside where the clamps go.
I can't remember if it's brass or copper since it's been so long, but by the looks of it, it looks like brass
IF[U] i had a digital camera i would post a picture of it so that u guys could see.
Either way, I am going to put it back on again.
I also did the DIY throttle cable, helped a lot...thanks.

haha lol. Well the original diy wasn't all that great. I didn't even know what it was at first until I did some research. I'm gonna be having a dyno soon, but its with the intake and hopefully cam gear if I can ever find one.
The mod does help, but I think after a long drive the tb is gonna heat up anyway because of the engine nearby. The wire cover is extremely hot and all that builds up under the hood.

I drove to Las Vegas many times, about 5 hours one way from where i live, also driven to LA, San Diego, TJ never had any sluggish response. I've also driven to Texas, about 23 hour drive non stop, and still no problems. like i said, it's going back on.

Tonight was fun. It got down to 65F as I was driving around and the car felt like it was 30. So much more responsive even with the stock intake still. I love it

wait a minute........5/16 is bigger than 1/4.......and 1/4 didn't work for u, weird, it fit my car perfectly. The piece of brass pipe i have though is threaded at both ends. could make the difference

For the tube, mine was the middle one, 5/16 or something. 3/8 was too big. The rubber covers for the tb were a bit small, I was barely able to fit em on the tips.

i wouldn't use those clamps if I were you. They don't do the best job sealing. Just get some mini hose clamps that you can tighten more.

i wish i knew a bit more abotu wut u guys were talking about?
ok heres wut i get from it....
the hose goes fromt he engine to the TB.. then out of the TB to the engine
basicly your takign the tb out of the loop?
so i just wanna make it go fromt he engine to the engine? and then cap off the tb's inlet and outlet
but does this not pump fluid into the tb? or jsut air? would be kewl to make a small cooling device for the tb. keep it chilly
but yes do i have that right? basicly disconnect the two TB input and outputs.a nd conntect them togethor. then cap off the tb's holes?
i think ima tighten the TB cable today

your description is correct for the tb coolant bypass. But I think you mean tighten the throttle cable, which is something completely different. That's the cable that opens the throttle body when you step on the gas.
