Re: Hi-milage cars. Who's got 100k miles +
Thought i'd chime in with my first post. I have a 96 Civic Ex sedan with 176,576 miles on it and counting.
The only things ever done to it were replace the battery, a couple front axles and oil changes and brake pads.
I'll be replacing the alternator on it this week, its starting to die, but not bad for a 13 yr old car i think.

I bought my beater with 260k on it... the auto trans was finally starting to slip so the old owner decided to sell it...
There was quite a bit of rust on bolts and what not, but nothing on the frame.
I don't know how they took care of the motor and a new torque convertor was costly, so I decided to replace a few parts from a donor acura
Most parts are now roughly 67k or brand new

Just bought an '01 Civic EX coupe with 180K on it, I've put about three hundred miles on it since buying it. It's good to hear that other civics are still running strong after 200,000 miles, means I didn't make a bad investment. Lovin' the civic!
Re: Hi-milage cars. Who's got 100k miles +
My first Civic was a 1994 DX manual which I bought brand new with 6 miles on the odometer (if memory serves right). After 6 years and 160,000 miles it was getting some rust and the tranny was going (I beat the snot out of that car). So I decide to get a new 2000 civic. Got it off the showroom floor. At one time I had wished I had gotten the Si but this car, with 215,000 miles, has never left me stranded. Glad I got this one.
Original clutch, tranny, engine and rear brakes. On second set of pads in front. No rust. Even if I get a new car I will not part with this one. See you at 300,000!

Well put me down for 237,919 miles as of this am coming into work. Thinking about trying for a quarter of a mill. Stock '95 ex coupe manual purchased with 19k miles.
Not running so great this morning though! Working on a throttle/sensor/fuel kind of problem that's causing it to stammer under load when warmed up. Having to drive it like a grannie and that's no good!

I had a manual 02 ex coupe with 113k on it. Bought it new in June of 02. No matenience other then brakes, oil and changed sparkplugs at 100k. Traded it in for an 05 ex coupe about 4 months ago with 46k on it. Runs like my old one did the day I took it off the lot. I love these cars!

Re: Hi-milage cars. Who's got 100k miles +
so i guess you could call my family the civic family...
my dad had an 89 civic cr (with the earliest version of real time 4wd... on a hatchback!) and he had 287,000 miles when his cat exploded on the highway and damaged so much that it wasn't worth fixing.
my stepmom had a 92 dx until 2003 which had 225,000 miles on the stock clutch! only serious problem was a blown head gasket at 175,000 miles. she only sold it to get a 7th gen
she now has a 2003 hx (45 mpg avg.!!) running great nothing besides usual maintanence has been done to it.
and my 2002 dx... i know whoever owned this car didn't maintain it very well... timing belt was done at 120k before i got it but i have to replace the oil pan gasket, rear main seal, input shaft bearing, clutch, and the exhaust manifold that is cracked...again. my car has 129k now...

103k miles and just recently replaced head gasket, timing belt, and water pump.
At around 80k miles I replaced the catalytic due to small crack which a bud at the dealer said was common.
Would like to thank reddawnman for the awesome DIY post on replacing head gasket.

EM2. 125k.
Got it with 54k.
Drive it like a bat out of hell, 6000 rpm shift in all gears, and tapped it out at 143mph!!! Nitroused it at exactly 100k, 50 shot. Have replaced all accessories like a/c compressor, alternator, starter, etc, etc... when I first got it. And replaced head gasket, water pump and timing belt at 110k.I push all redline fluids, but have been leaning toward the new mobile1 0 weight stuff...I like it.

Great little topic.
And Nice work--thank you for sharing- for me this makes perfect sense though.

Re: Hi-milage cars. Who's got 100k miles +
Just over 162,000 on my 01 civic. Put all the miles on it myself (had 11 miles on it when I bought it). It's been so good to me--and it gets pretty good gas mileage. I'll have that car until it wheezes its last breath!
Re: Hi-milage cars. Who's got 100k miles +
114,400 miles as of this morning on my '01 LX (manual trans) and still running like a dream.
Replaced right CV drive axle at 105K after blowing a boot; replaced left and right lower control arms and sway bar end links at 114K because the bushings were worn. (One control arm got messed up while pressing off the old bushing so I just replaced it all.) That's it as far as repairs on it since driving it off the lot! I'm also only on the 3rd set of tires (Toyo's ROCK!).
2 motor mounts replaced along with the radiator and front bumper reinforcement beam after a front-end collision with a POS Dodge in 07, but that was a direct result of the accident, so it doesn't count. Car still RAN fine and was driven from the scene and for about 3 mo. before my Dad took it to get fixed for my bday and paid my insurance deductible. (Damage wasn't bad, just scratchy.)
I generally get 41-44mpg running premium (93 octane) and haven't pushed her in order for the fuel light to come on, but I always get at least 450/fill-up.
No engine mods, no exhaust mods, original battery. This car is just the best.

How often do you guys change your oil? Mechanics try to rip you and say 3k, the manual says 10k, do any of you actually go 10k each time, or compromise and go 5k?
If you have a turbo or something, say so... I assume that those with turbos have to change it every 2k or 3k, depending.

14K w/10W-30 Mobil 1 Full Synthetic, Mobil 1 line of filters
Filters changed every 7K miles.
