P1361 Code

So the other day as I was driving my car suddenly lost power and went into limp mode. After checking my CEL I got code P1361 which led me to replace the cam sensor. Put the new one in and nothing changed, I read some other posts that said it could be that it just doesn't like the new (Not OEM) sensor or there could be excessive camshaft play. Any recommendations on what I should do next?

Re: P1361 Code

Any recommendations on where to buy a good sensor, I see some on Ebay that have the right part number that are cheaper then the $100 ones honda is trying to sell me. And I'd rather not pay so much since the car isn't really worth that much. I also recently did a timing job, do you think the TDC sensor failing could have messed it up?

Re: P1361 Code

I would sooner get a used OEM one from a junkyard than buy from Ebay.

I'll try to visit my local yard next chance I get, what makings should I look for to know it is OEM?

Re: P1361 Code

Does anyone know if any other honda years/makes/models use the same sensor? My local yard doesn't have any for my generation.

Re: P1361 Code

It is unique to the 7th generation Civic. '01-'05 Civic DX, EX, GX, HX, LX, and VP. My local pick your part junkyard usually has 5-10 7th gens, I'm surprised they don't have one.

Re: P1361 Code

Alright, so after not being able to find one at my yard I bought a Duralast one from autozone. It worked for about 30 miles then died again. Is it just going bad because it is an aftermarket one or is there something else that could be wrong? Later today I'm going to try another brand and see how it does.

Re: P1361 Code

The aftermarket ones either don't work at all, or do exactly like you said; work for a bit and then fail.

Re: P1361 Code

Update: So I pulled a sensor from a junkyard that didn't look aftermarket and installed it. It worked for a couple of hundred miles but then one day I could feel it occasionally starting to go into limp mode and then stopping. The same code did come back it now goes into limp mode, however, I have a cheap Bluetooth OBD plugged in and if I clear the code sometimes it will stay off for 20 or 30 miles before coming back on. Additionally, my battery light will occasionally flash at me randomly, it's so fast that I miss it most times, any ideas on if this could be connected? I have another sensor I am going to try and I'll see what happens.

Re: P1361 Code

Has anything electrical been messed with recently? Like alternator replacement? Check alternator mounting bolts. There are three not including the wing nut and all need to be tight. One big one on top, one underneath from bracket to alternator, another from bracket to block.

Yes, what I think happened is that when my original sensor died it somehow caused the spring for my timing belt tensioner to pop off, and this caused my timing belt to be a little lose. Luckily I had an old one and after redoing the timing everything has been working fine for a while. Hope this helps!
