TDC sensor code, loses power

My dads civic threw the code for the TDC sensor a while back. we changed the spark plugs because Honda told him to, although I knew that wouldn't fix it. When it throws the code, the car loses power, but stays running, and the only thing I can do is restart it and turn off A/c, radio, etc and its usually fine, although sometimes happens a few more times. It just happened to my dad again today and doesn't seem to be going away like it usually does, so he really wants to get it fixed.

I did some research when it first happened and although the code was for the TDC sensor, I read that it could also be another sensor (such as the camshaft position sensor? IIRC) that could be causing the TDC sensor to read wrong or something.

Any insight would be great, thanks!

MMMMM TDC would be Top Dead Center sensor?? So you had Power loose issues BEFORE you threw a code?? I'm just asking because im having some problems as well. Ok so how was your power loose BEFORE.... I mean did it just drop in RPM's and then die or did it just die. After words It reacted the same correct? Does you engine Slowly go down in RPM and then die? Let me know please because i'm trying to fix my car as well and if this is the problem then i'm going to honda TOMORROW.

Re: TDC sensor code, loses power

Whenever I had the code thrown while I was driving it, I could just restart it and it would be fine, occasionally a few miles down the road it would do it again but would restart and may or may not happen again. Tonight while my dad was driving it it finally gave out completely supposedly. He snailed along to honda and they're replacing it for $400, even though I'm capable of doing it they would have charged him $100 just to read the freakin code (even though part stores do it for free, and I knew what the problem was already), so he decided to just have it done.

Correct Top Dead Center sensor, the first time i actually experienced power loss was in the highway going about 70mph with a/c on(not even full blast) it bogged down on me to 35-40 and i had to pull over. I was pissed and sad since the car had never done this to me before. I turned the car off for a few min and drove with no issues. Issue seemed to come back on long drives with a/c on. I replaced the sensor and have not had the issue since then.

The engine never died on me just dropped rpms...and i never experienced that issue before the first time it happened.

Re: TDC sensor code, loses power

Dad had sensor replaced, Honda says it fixed the issue so we'll see. Now his exhaust manifold is cracked and they want $800. ****ing shops.

That I am perfectly capable and will end up doing, I never paid attention but is the catalytic converter part of the manifold on the 01 lx? All the parts I come across online show it is
