Rubbing sound from rear wheels
Rubbing sound from rear wheels
My car was sitting outside for two weeks while I was out of town. When I got in it and started to go, I heard a sound like something rubbing coming from the back wheel (wheels?) After driving it for two minutes, the sound was gone. Since then, every time I start up the car after having it sit for more than an hour it makes that sound for the first 30 seconds or so of driving although it isn't nearly as bad as when I came back from 2 weeks. I had thought it might be the rear brakes so I didn't put on the parking brake last time I drove it, but this morning it still made the rubbing noise. It sounds like it's coming from the rear passenger wheel, but I guess it could be both. There is also a lot of road noise if that matters... but I thought that was just crappy tires. What do you think this is?
Re: Rubbing sound from rear wheels
Jack it up, spin both and check for looseness. The brakes may have flash rusted while it was parked. My rotors do it every night on the front. Quits after I used the brakes a couple times. If that's all it is no big deal, just annoying. If it was from putting you parking brake on it would be vibrating too.
