hey guys,

I have a k20a2 swapped into my EM2. I have a little problem with my ep3 EPS conversion on my car. The EPS unit came off an 04 civic SI, just for clarification.

When i start my car, the EPS is as smooth as butter. It will stay smooth until i drive the car for approx. 7-10 min. then the EPS will get weaker.

The power steering is still there, but A LOT weaker. Its gets to a point where the power of the EPS is right between NOT having power steering and having the EPS run smoothly.

Does any know what could be wrong? i checked the wiring and it seems good. Bad control box? bad rack? anything please help me out. I love to drive it when the EPS is running at 100%.

what fluids are you referring to exactly? THe motor is not weak, the motor is strong and healthy, to my knowledge. No CEL no nothing.

As in fluids, all the fliuids are filled, but not sure what the fliuds have to do with the electronic power steering though.

Any other suggestions xproductionz?

well the motor is probably strong at first then getting weak after.. thats the only thing i can think of.. u think about it theres not much things can cause it to feel weak..

Also doesn't power steering have something to do with a belt?

EPS = Electric power stearing, there are no fluids, just grease.

Is your motor over heating on the EPS wrack when its slowing down?

sounds like the motor is overheating and getting weak. is the any exhaust piping close to the motor?

disregard this post, the whole time i thought you guys were talking about my actual K20a2 motor, but now that i've read it again, you guys meant my electric motor of the EPS.

im not an expert by any means but sayings as its electrical could it be a voltage problem? i duno just a thought no idea how the eps works though.. sorry probably a waste of time..

well there's only one exhaust piping near the rack and that's the stock header/cat. Can't really relocate those away from the rack.

I know of 2 other em2 with the same set up and theirs run fine.

I think the electric motor might be going out, but wanted to see if i could find something else that could of been wrong with it that's easier for me to replace.

ok part 11 is what i think i should be replacing. I actually bought the eps off a member on k20a.org let me see if he can do anything about this for me.

Do you guys have any other suggestions about how i can pinpoint this problem?

Like how exactly do i know if the motor is overheating? by the feel of touch?

Check small stuff first such as grounding points. Do you have enough?

Check your alternator and battery... make sure they are in good condition. Other than that, it could be a defective EPS motor.

I think i have enough ground already. Where did you place ur grounding points? my battery is a brand new optima red top and the alterator seems to be working fine..i think. I'll try to recheck everything i can before i purchase a new eps motor. thanks nameless.

my eps LIGHT STARTS FLICKERING OVER 3500 RPM AND WHEN I TURN ac ON IT GOES OFF. IT IS ALSO GOOD WHEN HEAD LIGHTS ARE ON AND EVEN REAR DEMISTER HELPS TO TURN IT OFF. EPS STOPS WORKING WHEN LIGHT IS ON. ANY HELP?

Did you ever manage to remedy this EPS problem? I'm having the same issue and it also seems to settle down when I switch on the rear window defrost.
