Replace shocks

Hello. My '02 civic has 157,000 miles. The shocks (front and back), have never been replaced. Can someone help in telling me exactly what is the name of the parts i need to buy? Do i just need to buy the shock by itself or a whole assembly? What are the differences? I also heard someone tell me i need to replace the springs? Is this true/necessary? I intend to keep this car for a long time, so i want to get goo shocks, but my budget is not that big either.. About $500 bucks. Should i go with the monroe sensa-tracs? Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Replace shocks

all you need is the strut/shock set for front and rear. springs are a lifetime part. if you want a bit firmer ride with less bounce, tokico HP are an excellent choice and cost around $400 for the set of four. install maybe another $150 so thats within your budget and you get better quality than oem. monroe is garbage and i wouldnt pay more than $100 for a set. if you just want something to throw in there and dont care about handling, the monroes are a cheap way to go, but i doubt they would last anywhere near as long as tokico.

Re: Replace shocks

It's a really install, if you feel like trying yourself. There's a DIY guide to swap your springs that you can follow to pretty much do any sort of strut/spring installations

https://www.civicforums.com/forums/4...info-pics.html

First mod I ever did was a spring swap and I was 17 with my 15 year old friend helping me.

Re: Replace shocks

Monroe shocks are garbage. KYB makes good cheaper shocks. I wouldn't get the most expensive but not the cheapest either.
