Suspension experts help plz!!!

I've searched the susp. forum and I can't find anybody who has had similar problems I am having.

First - im dropped on neuspeed sports springs on stock shocks and riding on 18s.

my problem is that when Im making a turn, even at normal speeds, my car looses traction and bounces a lot! what confuses me is that the ride isn't that bad when im going straight, i mean its a bit harsh cuz of the 18s on a 35 series tire and stock shocks - but its not that bad. but when i make a turn it feels like the car slides out... /... this way. meaning during the turn i feel the back of the car slide just a bit.i really dont know how to explain it more than that. its just really bouncy during turns.

my question is what is the cause of this? could it be because my tires are near done with? could it be because im on stock shocks? i was also thinking a sway bar might help!

please help i have no idea about suspension performance!

IDQcivic should not be trusted
Yeah upgrade your suspension and that might help, I would get a set of full coilovers, and front/rear sway bars...

1) SHOCKS
the stock shocks/struts arent helping your situation...
swap them out for something better

2) TIRES
are your tires worn out?
are they not the proper tire for your needs?

3) SWAYBARS
if the rear-end is 'sliding-out' in the turns, you have oversteer...
swap the rear swaybar for something smaller OR swap the front swaybar for something bigger

Its your shocks... The OEM dampers are bairly able to handle the OEM springs.

People seem to not realize how big a role dampers make in the whole performance pacage of a car.... they influence cornering, ride quality, braking, acceleration and general safety.

I may be completely wrong, but i don't think its oversteer. i think the slideing feeling i get is more because the of the bounciness. feels like my tires are slipping out from under the car lol. i drew a high quality picture to illustrate what i feel when going around a turn. take a look...

which one of these is happining. (BTW, unstableness in a turn, particularly if the car gets unstable in a bumpy turn, is almost allways a damper issue)

So the car is oversteering... but any way Pick up a set of dampers. (may as well resolve the 1st problem)

Pick up some Tokico HP's. probably the cheepest ones that will handle those springs.

And your not going to find ANY damper that comes pre-assembled. only way to find that is to get a pre-built "coilover".

whoops - i was thinking damper = true coilover?

i want to get a full coilover that replaces shock/strut/spring.

if i get B&Gs its just a complete replacement right? so the install would be the same as changing the springs, meaning i would take the old shock/strut out - and instead of meessing with springs id just put the B&G coilver to replace the OEM, correct?

More or less, but then why spend the extra $$$ when all you need is a decent set of dampers?

im not happy with my neuspeed sports. they sqeak and crack all the time and the back is lower than the front. also, i want something with a really good ride quality. not to mention that i don't want to mess with having to modify my stock stuff to get them to work.

i was just about to edit my last post to ask about Megan Coilovers. those are direct replacements, correct? and they would give me a near stock ride comfort, right?

My Megans dropped right in, no modification necessary. In fact, they even came with their own top mount bolts. Bonus.

No coilover kit will give you anything close to near-stock ride comfort. In fact, I'm of the opinion that no aftermarket suspension spring/coilover combo will be comparable to stock comfort. My Megans, set at 3 short of softest setting, are still good and stiff, but you feel every little dip or crack in the road. I'd go as far as to say I'd be able to stop on a dime cause I'd feel the car going over the damn coin. You get used to it, it's part of having an aftermarket suspension. If you want stock comfort, the only way is to stay stock.

It would probably be better with your neuspeed springs and Hp's, given that the springs are progressive rated rather then Liniar (whats on the Megans)

BTW, the saggy rear end you have now, may be a symptom of blown shocks....

is there a different coilover besides megans that have progressive spring rates?

i just looked at the DIY for the koni inserts - and i THINK the tokicos would be the same thing right? i REALLY don't wanna do all that haha.

well, Koni's are.... inserts and involve cutting.... Tokico's are full replacement. The Neuspeeds are good springs! it really isnt a good idea to buy a coil-over set and then find out you dont like them.

btw: non progressive springs ride almost like you have no suspension (ie: how a bicycle feels).... every bump feels rough.

tony_buttons is an unknown quantity at this point
Did they ever start making the tokicos for 03-up civic sedan? Last time I checked I couldn't find them.
