Where to get my break job, Please HELP!

What sup guys,

Just wondering where I should get my break job done. Midas (meinike) is doing their usual $89.99 break service with a lifetime warranty. Or i can go to the dealer and have them rip me off. Please tell me a place where I can get good service for my break job w/ a decent price. I'm really just going to change the pads. No rotors or anything like that.

Thanks in advance,
Andy

Your garage is a good place. There's a DIY for it and changing the pads is quite easy to do. Just make sure you get the rotors resurfaced too.

Are there instruction manuals for it? Let me check some DIYs to see how difficult it is.

It's Super EASY !!!!!

Do it YoUrSeLf.... Pep Boys Charges $9.99 to shave the rotors (You have to take them off of the car) and that's Each .. so it's $20 and you need a Ride there... Make sure they can do it while you wait.

Here's my Super Spiffy DIY (With Cool Little Mermaid Backround) (Don't Playa Hate)

only thing i'd say about your DIY is, instead of having the brake fluid possibly spill out in your engine bay, simply loosen the brake bleeder screw out some and have it spill out into a small container instead. Then simply tighten the brake bleeder screw, add fluid, and bleed your brakes.

That's a good thought... but i'm thinking about it... .

If you take the cap off the brake fluid container in the engine bay, the only way brake fluid will tip out... is if you ever added it when it's gotten low... Which if you've always done yourself you will know.

But on the other hand if you losen the bleeder screw, Brake Fluid will definatly poor out when you push the caliper back in. With the lose in fluid, you will need to add fluid after a couple brake jobs.

So I think I'll stick to my way, Since I Know not to add brake fluid instead of changing the pads, I should never have to add more fluid, unless I get a leak.

But if you don't do your brake yourself all the time, and some one may have added fluid, it is pretty hard to clean up that engine bay, so your idea would be perfect for the first time brake job.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Where are you in California? There are a couple people on this site that you can go to their garage and they will charge you a third of the price for labor. You just got to provide the brake pads. And I'm pretty sure you can watch them do it, and you can do it next time from learning from them. Private message

dj02 or Em2Guy

I would have gladly helped you change your brakes, but I'm really busy studying for my DAT.

I don't know if all this is really necessary

We're trying to convince the man to change his pads, he's not bleeding the lines or even changing the calipers. The worst possible case senerio that he could royaly mess things up would be to stick em in ****-eyed and some how wiggle the caliper bake on, and completely lock the wheel up. In that case he wouldn't get out of his drive way yet alone be able to get into a "LIFE OR DEATH" situation. I can't think of one possible way changing the brakes pads could turn into a serious error. I think being a Mechanic, you may be a little bias telling him to go to a mechanic to pay $80 for 20 minutes of labor

sorry, my intentions weren't to scare him off but to make sure he was fully aware that changing brakes and messing up, and say changing your body kit and messing up are not the same level of risk for injury to yourself and or others! I would have to agree that its a simple job and MOST can do it blind folded. But you would have to agree that there is a level of risk to consider if you or the person doing the job is not fully aware of what needs to be done on the job for it to be done properly. I have seen some pretty scarry jobs done by so called technicains and let me tell you its pretty scarry. What really bothers me is when i see someone that KNOWS how to do it properly and ***** up because they got in a hurry or just had thier head in the clouds and it puts people in danger! And im not bias i think !! I think everyone should learn how to do a certain level of repair on thier vehicles. But they need to know what they are doing or follow very detailed instructions.

I hope that clarifies my views

well after reading all these post, I decided to ask my friend to do it w/ me. He said he change his pads by himself so at least I have someone w/ experience helping me. I'm thinking of getting Hawk HPS for pads, do you guys agree that it is worth the money rather than getting OEM pads?

I bought some Maintenence thing w/ my car, so I got one free set of OEM pads.

I had to argue with them to give them to me without paying them to install them, but I got them.

But I usually just go with the Cheap Brake Pads, and Change them more often... You still save money.

Glad to see your going DIY it, once you see how easy it really is, you'll have no worries
