Stuck in D4 [solved]

98 civic lx won’t start. Car thinks that it is in D4 but the actual shifter is in park. I unplugged the range sensor on the side of the shifter. How can I fix it so it works again?

Tried in neutral? Try another range switch from the junkyard?

re: Stuck in D4 [solved]

Yes tried in all positions no start at all. Picked up another switch from junkyard. The actual plastic range slider broke where the metal pin slides when you move shifter.

I guess electronically the car thought it was still in d4 but mechanically was in park.

replacement part worked good and fixed the issue.
