Weird acceleration issue

I have a 1997 D16y7 w/Y8 intake. When I lean into the gas pedal, if im gentle enough, it accelerates smoothly. Once im rolling (in any gear) if I press harder, my gas gauge plummets, and the car will accelerate, then the engine stops, then comes back to original power, then stops, and repeats until I get off the pedal. I have racked my brain, gone over the manual, searched online, taken it to the dealer. I want to keep the motor until it dies, if I can. Ive replaced the:
IAC
PCV
distributor, plugs
wires
O2 sensors
fuel pump, fuel filter, injectors
made sure the timing is right
Havent found any vacuum leaks. Im at my wits end. Please help.

Re: Weird acceleration issue

my gas gauge plummets
Fix this first then it will run good?
Sounds like huge electrical problem lol

1 small bolt on thermostat housing with wires attached is the main grounds for the PCM,... clean and tighten?

Check major ground cables? battery neg to body/trans and 1 (or more) smaller cable(s) from body to engine and/or around motor mounts

Hot cables? battery to fusebox/alternator/starter
alternator bolts not loose?

any other recent work that might be a clue?

None that stand out. When I took it to the dealer, they replaced the negative ground from the battery and told me to replace the dizzy. Did that, but still had the issue. I wil inspect all the grounds after work, when the suns out.

Re: Weird acceleration issue

So someone else was thinking along the same lines, electrical power loss due to something I can't tell from your description (maybe drivetrain movement causes a circuit to open, or high current demand causing a weak point to "open")
I kinda want to know about voltage drop and whatnot on the fuel gauge problem, just so i can see if it leads me to the engine problems

You could
Use some jumper cables as redundant grounds for testing?
One set could become 2 extra ground cables
Good clean sharp and strong clamps on the jumpers help a lot too.

Yea, im gonna go over all the grounds tomorrow, and try that out. I seem to recall not cleaning the grounds on the tranny and body when I replaced the clutch almost a year ago

Re: Weird acceleration issue

Sorry for the late reply. I finally got time to go over it, and I found a loose body ground under the driver seat. As in about to fall out, loose. I retightened it, and took it for a drive. That seems to have cured it, thank god! I appreciate the suggestions
