Problem with fuse for fuel pump
Problem with fuse for fuel pump
Hi there
I have a 1998 Honda Civic which is a great car but in the warm months, has a problem with the immobiliser cutting off fuel. I've had 3 things changed - fuel pump, alternator leads and some little red box thing(sorry, I'm no mechanic!). Same issue continuing. As an easy possibility, I'm now looking at fuses. The one for the fuel pump is an unmarked black one and pushed further in than the rest - I can't remove it so am wondering if this is meant to be like it or perhaps this is finally what the problem is? Be great to have some advice. Thanks.

Re: Problem with fuse for fuel pump
there are no immobilizer on this car generation?
you need to check if there is no damage to wires, bad terminals or connections or splices in older cars. Can even be rodents chewing wires.
test for continuity using a multimeter

Thanks very much for advice. Definitely has an immobiliser - green light with key sign. I'll check wires etc as you suggest. Cheers

ah, I see you are in GB...
my statement was for Americas.
instead of replacing fuel pump, you should have tested it.
Because if the green key is flashing, what is stopping the pump is the immobilizer.
you need to troubleshoot the immobilizer, and it is from key to reader in ignition and the wiring to the immobilizer. And the immobilizer itself (ECU?)

Re: Problem with fuse for fuel pump
Yes, I thought immobiliser from the word go and am convinced that's the root of the issue but my mechanic (a honda specialist) didn't!!! I've managed to work out how to deal with it over last couple of years but when the weather's hot it's worse and it plays up all the time - left for a few hours it starts with no issue whatsoever - it was fine over the winter but really playing up this summer!
