08 Civic EX Door lock problems

Hi All,

I just bought a 2008 Civic with driver side door lock problems.
Basically the key will not turn to the right in the driver side door, so if the battery ever dies it means that I can't unlock the car.

I already replaced the actuator, and while it was out the key moved freely in the cylinder, so I think the cylinder is ok, and the actuator is new, so I'm assuming that's ok too.
I got a new key FOB and it works perfectly, but I hate the thought of ever having a dead battery AND having to break into the car to do anything about it.

Any ideas? Thanks!
- Marco

when the battery dies, you can use the key to unlock passenger door

There's no door lock cylinder on the passenger side. Driver side is the only one.

Re: 08 Civic EX Door lock problems

Minor update: I found that if I really force it I can unlock the driver side door mechanically with the key.
I guess that'll do for now, but it'd be nice to actually figure out what's wrong with it. Hmm.

Re: 08 Civic EX Door lock problems

Yeah - I got a good amount of oil into the lock.
The thing is when I had the actuator disengaged from the cylinder the key worked really smoothly in the cylinder.
Then when I hooked up the actuator and plugged it in it just locked up and doesn't turn to the right just like the old actuator did.

I think I'll try replacing the cylinder just to see if it does anything. I miss my 93 Accord 5 speed.
