Just need an answer to my alternator problem, please help!
I have recently went to a Honda Dealership and got my timing belt replaced as long with the drivetrain belt and alternator belt. Also, I got the water pump replaced. After driving it, the car would squeal at low rpms when turning. I took it back and the alternator belt was too tight so they loosened it. Now my car wont crank at times and when it doesn't, the car gives me a horrible clicking sound. I was told the alternator was bad, but how? Could it be when the belt was loosened? If so, can I do something about it as far as compensation, I did pay a whopping $700 so it would be nice to figure this out, just confused is all

You paid good money, go back there and demand that it gets fixed. Show em your receipt, ask for a manager, if he/she is a hardhead get the regional managers number. When you pay a shop to fix something, and the very thing they fixed is messed up, there's really nothing any mid-to-large scale business can do but make it right, generally speaking if they want to stay in business.
Sometimes the squeak can come from the manner in which they tightened the belt, and having worked on an alternator in an 01 civic (it can get annoying after awhile) they may have just rushed and not been too thrilled to see/hear you coming back.
Stay on the offensive my friend.

Thanks for quick responce guys! MindBomber, i was basing my diagnosis on the dealership and my local mechanic, which has been fixing cars for 15 years. The dealership charged my battery, and took its specs and said everything was cool, just tightened my negative cable. Free of charge. Got home, changed, and was ready to leave with my car not able to crank once more. The local mechanic cranked my car and was reading the voltage before and after. It stayed at 12v's. He told me that if the voltage didnt rise, the alternator was bad. So imma go by his word and get it replaced. Gugle, thanks for the advice but i dont like driving 20+ miles to get nothing done, ive been back twice since that swap. All i wanted to know if tightening the belt right or wrong would make the alternator go bad. Still sad though

Re: Just need an answer to my alternator problem, please help!
Over tightening the belt can cause the alternator bearing to fail. Your Mech is probably right, but I would still check out the alternator before buying a new one.
Re: Just need an answer to my alternator problem, please help!
Yeah, it should be putting out more than 12V while running (especially with any accessories on). It should be almost 14V. Have the alt tested/replaced. Now you have to prove the belt being too tight caused the alt to fail. Good luck with that...

Yeah, tell me about it Lazlong! But my Mech told me that hearing sounds coming out of my subs when the car was on also meant that the diode(s) were f**ked up in the alternator. My subs were doing that, so its definetly in the shop now, i wish i had the time to DIM(yself) but full-time student+2 part-time jobs, cant do it
Too much money invested in this ride already, cant let it go to waste
