Hi all, ( Car is a 2004 Civic Si EP3)

Driving home yesterday all was well until I was getting ready to get off at my exit. I push in the clutch to down shift and I hear the car hitting the govenor. So I lift my foot of the clutch and keep my foot off the gas and the car is starting to go faster. Now after a few near death experiences I finally get the car to stop by putting it in Neutral and turning it off. So I look at the Throttle body and cables look fine, gas pedal is fine.

So Im thinking throttle position sensor is the issue? not so fast

So I let the car sit over night and I try to start next day and as soon as I start it the car redlines. I dont get whats going on here.

Any idea's?

did you check to see if is the throttle plate is stuck open? Any codes?

dont know how but issue was with the cruise control caused the issue of trying to kill me. So i went ahead and disconnected the throttle cable to the cruise control and problem gone. BUT now I have another problem and I think I caused this one. Now the car revs from 1k to 2k rpms and cant get it to go away. And to top it off just broke my foot. So any ideas?

Yes get in touch with honda's head office of honda of america and report the issue.

Has anyone done any engine work before other then honda's assembly's lines or dealers? This can be a serious safety issue/ recall.

Just do yourself a favor and report it.

You can report it but, things like this happen. CC systems are just as fallible as any other system. That's why they have diagnostic tables for the CC system in the service manual. Unless it happens a lot on a specific model they're not gonna do anything.

Find yourself a service manual and do the diagnostics.

just an idea, but throttle return spring? I have heard this could cause this problem...
