Brother Bought a Civic-Trunk release issues....

Hello:

Last night my brother bought a 2005 Civic Sedan DX VP. Overall, not a bad little car. A few dings and scratches here and there, but I'll be able to polish out most of the scratches.

The only issue is that the trunk latch on the inside of the car does not work. The fuel door will open when the latch (handle) is pushed down, but the latch (handle) will not pull back to open the trunk. (It has a lock and yes, we have unlocked it)

The key works to open the trunk just fine. Just wondering if there is a quick, easy fix for this.

THANKS.

Are you getting a click sound as it locks ?? You should. On my 05 I had to use some folded paper against the lock cylinder to get it to work (same thing, it would not unlock & handle would not move up) I wedged it between the cylinder and the metal bracket on the rear side.

Thanks for the info-not sure I totally understand though.

Are you saying that a plastic cover (by the lock) needs to come off while trying to turn the key? Just want to make sure things are clear before I try and fix this for him. (If I decide to try)

Re: Brother Bought a Civic-Trunk release issues....

Try the key and listen for the click.

If you slide the little L shaped cover off to the right you will be able to gently and evenly pry the lock cylinder straight up.

Once out,you can reach in and work the latch mech at the bottom by hand & see if the trunk will open.

If no click then you most likely will need to shim the bottom of the cylinder forward and you will need to remove the entire cover to get into it.

Hi I just bought a 2005 honda civic ex with the same problem. The gas door release works but the interior trunk release does not. Could someone explain in more detail?

I had this issue as well and I replace the latch, no issues anymore. You can adjust the catch plate up down left and right so play with that first, it never helped me though.
