Just bought a 2001 LX 2DR
I've just bought a 2001 LX coupe. I did enough research to know of the transmission dangers, but I got a good price with 137k on it. It's a manual if this makes any difference. It's got a fantastic service history and had the timing belt changed at 120k.
I'd like to know what are the best preventive changes I can make to get the most out of the car. Here are my thoughts right now :
Spark plugs
Air Filter
Fuel Filter
Oil change
What are regarded as the best for these 4 tasks? How often does this car need a oil change and tire rotation... every 3/4k?
What else should I look into as a new owner of this disastrous year of Civic?
What are the best replacement bulbs for the OEM lights?

i would say oil change every 5-6k with conventional oil and no additives. air filter every year (napa gold is good), plugs stick with ngk/denso and change whenever they need to depending if you get copper or platinum. tire rotation every 10k miles, fuel filter every 100k only if the fuel pressure drops below spec (it has built in "lifetime" filter in the fuel pump/tank). its mostly a good car, the manual trans has no real issues, its the auto that breaks down alot. for headlight bulbs, get the philips XP H4 bulbs from www.powerbulbs.com they are the brightest and best legal 55w bulb you can buy.

From looking around the forum I was hoping you'd reply! The car feels very tight and responsive; I can tell it's not had a hard life. Thanks for the guidelines. Is there really no preference on oil? I'm in Ontario if that makes any difference to the choice. I'm fresh from the uk so all this dual seasons stuff is new to me

i like to use valvoline maxlife 5w30 for oil on higher mileage cars. it has alot of very good additives to help the motor last longer. if its always cold (around freezing or lower) then stick with 5w20.
