2005 Civic Will Not Start
2005 Civic Will Not Start
I have a 2005 Honda Civic - operating perfectly to now - this morning will not start - checked the battery - it is sitting at 13 volts - turn the key and a lot of clicking and rapid dash light flickering - finally if you just leave the key in the on position all the dash lights come on bright like it's ready to start but turning the key to the start position and all the dash lights go out and there is no starter engagement it's like when you tun the key to start the power goes out - sometimes with faint rapid flickering of dash lights. For more information if I turn the key to on the dash lights come on like it's ready to start then if I turn on the headlights switch all the dash lights go out. ?????

Have you tried jumpstarting ??
Check to see if one of the battery terminals is loose or corroded ??
Does it have the green "eye" indicator ?? Is it green or yellow ?

Hi:
There is an eye on top of this battery but it is not indicating any light either green or yellow although the battery does test at 13 volts just sitting there - do you know how to read the error codes on these 2005's? In the meantime I have a charger on the battery to see if that does anything.
Cheers.

I would check the fluid level. (forgot to mention)
I have needed to top my original 05s cells up a couple of times since new.
Add distilled water to just above the plates, Dont fill it full !! (I used spring water)
Charge it up and see what happens.

Hi:
It's actually a sealed battery. I think it's got a problem - it shows 13 volts but the green indicator is not on - it tests only one cell so that cell might be bad.

If it is the original battery then the 2 caps will come out. You have to remove the holdown bracket then pry the caps with a small flat blade.
Dark may mean it is dry.

I just had a very similar problem with my 2006 Civic. Same wierd flashing dashboard lights, etc.
After spending $60 to have it towed to the nearest Honda dealer, it turned out to be the battery!
Replaced the batter and the car has been running fine ever since!
