Bizarre SRS light issue
Bizarre SRS light issue
Hey guys, quick question. I was detailing my car yesterday as per the norm (2001 Civic LX 5spd), shampooed the carpets, the full shabang. Anyways, everything was working perfect up until this point. Now, here's the issue. I go out to drive my car this morning and it starts up fine. Here's where it gets weird. My stereo loses power, I look on the dash and my SRS light is on, solid. This wasn't on before. Car doesn't drive any differently, it's just the light on with no power to my stereo.
Any ideas..?

Re: Bizarre SRS light issue
I don't think it's the fuse, because the stereo will start up with the car every time. Just give it ten seconds or so and the exact same time the SRS light flicks on, the stereo loses power. If I turn off the engine and just let it sit in key position 2 (battery on), the stereo works fine. It's only when I start the engine and the car goes through it's checks that the stereo turns off.
As I said. It's bizarre.

Re: Bizarre SRS light issue
its possible, but usually the srs light gets triggered by low battery voltage. maybe check the charging system (alternator) and battery.
Re: Bizarre SRS light issue
Perhaps.. A headlight also burned out today, and it seemed like my daytime running lights were flickering.
Maybe the alternator is to blame? Maybe I got some water on it.. ****.

Re: Bizarre SRS light issue
Did you remove the seats at all... or disconnect the connectors underneath them -possibly on accident? That would explain the SRS light. As for the radio... I have no idea.
Re: Bizarre SRS light issue
I didn't remove the seats, but they did get moved back and forth. I'll make sure I check the connectors. The SRS has to be linked to the radio going off, maybe the radio is piggybacking on the mostly-unused SRS detection. Ugh, I don't know.

Re: Bizarre SRS light issue
If the seat connectors were the problem, simply reconnecting the connectors wont disable the SRS light, you'll have to do the SRS reset light trick with the paperclip.
Re: Bizarre SRS light issue
Seat connectors weren't the problem, starting to think it's something more substansial. Both of my new headlight bulbs burned out today. Ugh, this is a pain in the ***.

Hahah, pretty sure, though the other car in the family is a 2003 Jetta. I hope it hasn't rubbed off on my car!
Though the Jetta has had a problem free life. Unlike my car. :|

Re: Bizarre SRS light issue
Damn... how exactly did you go about cleaning the carpets and detailing the car... did you do anything in the engine bay such as hose it off or apply in products in there?
Re: Bizarre SRS light issue
I used some degreaser in the engine bay, but put plastic bags over my air intake, battery, and tried to get one over the alternator. It might have been a bit exposed, but I avoided that area anyways, I let it sit for a while and then hosed it off. Otherwise I just used some armorall oxiclean and vacuumed it out of the carpets.
I've done the same thing to my engine before, though. that's what's getting me.
**** I did it the first time without bags no less.
