Whenever I turn my head lights on, the gauge cluster lights totally turn off. It is not because of the dimmer dial, that is on max setting. I have noticed that even on max setting the gauge cluster is especially dim with the headlights off. Then when i toggle the headlights on, the gauge cluster completely goes dark.
I have went through and checked all the wires to make sure they are all in tight.


any ideas?

PS. I have done a 02-03 gauge cluster conversion but this is the first time i have been having this problem.

My 05 has 2 brightness settings... 1 when the lights are off 1 when the lights are on. Try turning the **** when the lights are on.

Is this the cluster assembly using the LEDs for backlight illumination ??

The cluster night illumination was working fine... and then quit ??

yea, the led works very faintly until i turn on the parking/head lights. it happened about 1 week ago. up until then it has been very bright.

its possible the leds are dead, or the PWM circuit they use for dimming them. its full bright normally. i havent heard of these clusters failing cause of the big circuit board acting as a heatsink, but i guess its possible. how many cluster miles?

29k cluster miles. i think ill go back and check the connections a little bit later. maybe I am missing a loose wire or something.

just realized that my climate control does not light up either but the bottom buttons with recirculate, ac, and defrost come on and dim with the headlights on. is it possible that the climate control is shorting out the gauge cluster?

possibly a loose power wire to the cluster. but im not sure why dash lights would be affected.

I remember on my 02 civic when i had the old gauges in (01 02 style) the speedo had a brightness **** that when you turn it the gauge would dim and the interior lights would dim with it. (ex when speedo is dim, the PRNDD2 would dim as well) It seems to me like you have a loose wire in your cluster causing your interior lights to dim
