2014 Civic Ex - Driver's door unlocking whenever fob is nearby
Hi All,
I am struggling with an issue that first emerged maybe 6 months ago: the driver's door of our 2014 Civic Ex keeps unlocking (keyless entry) when the fob is anywhere near the outside of the car (within several feet of the driver's door). If working correctly, it only unlocks when the fob is nearby AND a hand is placed into the driver's door handle.
Our car battery (which was not even 4 years old) also died <2 months ago, and we believed it was related. We took the car to a mechanic after boosting the battery, and their electronics diagnostic said that something was wrong with our fob... we didn't think so because the problem continued even with our spare fob. He also said that the issue would not result in draining of a car battery...so we got a new battery and continued on. The unlocking issue remained and we ignored it, but then we discovered the car battery was dead again this morning.
I'm very wary of taking it back to the same mechanic - or any mechanic - without having an idea of what might be wrong. I think it's the door assembly, or maybe a mechanism inside it because the passenger side works without issue. Any thoughts or suggestions?
