Battery drain from AC Compressor Clutch constantly engaged
Battery drain from AC Compressor Clutch constantly engaged
I have a 2010 Sedan, 92K on it. I purchased it a few months ago. The Carfax report was clean. It was working fine Saturday evening and then Sunday morning, dead battery. In the days since, I have charged the battery and checked the voltage, watching it drop hour by hour from 12v down to 4v (all with the car not running). I disconnected the battery cables, recharged, and it will drop to 10v and hold. When reconnecting the battery cables, could hear a click and have isolated it to be the electromagnet on AC Compressor engaging the clutch. It would seem that this is the parasitic draw on the battery. What's my troubleshooting path to find the failure point?
Hopefully related is this......In testing, we jump started the car to test the alternator output (which was good at 14v). Less than a minute later the AC compressor started making a chattering sort of sound and a cloud of refrigerant appeared. Using a black light showed the UV dye from the refrigerant is all over the compressor, though not indicating a specific leak point. This happened twice. The attached video shows the second time, when all AC controls were off. You can see the AC compressor clutch spinning, even though it shouldn't be, I think. Thoughts?
The .mov doesn't seem to be attaching. Here's a temporary link:

Re: Battery drain from AC Compressor Clutch constantly engaged
Check the AC clutch relay, and sounds like it needs a battery if it sits at 10v
