Engine whining sound. [solved]
Engine whining sound. [solved]
Hello, I've had this new whining sound for 3 days on my civic 2011 1.8l. Any idea of which component could most likely cause this whining? seems like it's coming from the back of the engine itself. For now, it will stop after 5 minutes of driving the car.

If you have a clue, I would be grateful. Thanks.

re: Engine whining sound. [solved]
Ok thanks you for giving me your opinion, I will try this tomorrow morning, when I start the cold car.
I have a good screwdriver to test my alternator but the AC compressor is too low under, do you think that any metal rod could do the trick?

I followed your suggestion, using the stethoscope. 2 days ago the car was producing no whining, I took the opportunity to listen to my AC, Alternator and multiple point on the engine, memorized these normal sounds.
This morning it started again and I found the hot spot directly.
The rod directly over the PCV valve, on the red dot, it's coming very strong from there. Alternator and AC are normal.

Could this be a PCV valve failure sound?
(My stethoscope)

re: Engine whining sound. [solved]
SOLVED: That whining sound from the video was caused by my power steering pump, pumping air. The oil container is stained at the right level giving the impression that it's always full but the oil was a too low. A bit more oil in the container and the whining is gone, hopefully the pump was not damaged.
