Temp sensor question

I ordered 1 temperature sensor from RockAuto and it came with a metal Oring not a rubber one. Is this incorrect or is it for the lower temp sensor? I believe the top one has a rubber oring but I could see the radiator one having a metal oring. Any idea?

Do you realize how little information you've given us?

Re: Temp sensor question

I’m not sure what more information you need. Are the temp sensors (ECT) supposed to come with a rubber oring or a metal oring. The upper and lower are the same part, they do the same thing. Are they both supposed to seal with a rubber oring or do they each seal differently. I ordered a non-OEM temp sensor because I broke the plastic surround, the one that came has a metal oring or crush washer. Is this proper, I’m unfamiliar with this particular vehicle and was wondering if anyone else has received a temp sensor with a crush washer rather than a rubber oring..

Re: Temp sensor question

I did, they told me the metal washer was right for the application but I don’t believe it is. They wouldn’t supply a rubber oring because they said the metal washer was what is correct.. though they sell them with the rubber oring as well.. I should have just bought that one

You could just return it. They’re pretty good with exchanges

Actually, while I’m thinking about it, what brand sensor is it?

Re: Temp sensor question

It was designed for a metal washer, I would use it. If it leaks return the sensor to Rockauto as defective (for free, shipping included). They may also just let you keep it because it's so cheap.

Re: Temp sensor question

Don’t be surprised if the sensor doesn’t work either; Honda’s don’t take well to aftermarket sensors

Re: Temp sensor question

I think I’m just going to take the hit for the 3 dollar sensor and just purchase the right one with the rubber oring.. it’s honestly to much trouble to return it for 3dollars. And while I don’t believe it was specifically manufactured to take a metal washer in this application rather than an oring because it is designed to replace a part with the exact same part number that has a rubber oring, I’m not going to use it because BrotatoChip said it should be used with the metal washer because it was manufactured to use the metal washer. I just added it on to the order cause it was 3 bucks and I thought I would replace it since I already did the top one.. I haven’t found anywhere that it says to use one with a metal washer all service bulletins and DIYs I’ve come across show a sensor with a rubber oring so I’m just gonna get the one with the rubber oring.. thanks for your time
