Fuel pressure relief

I have a 2007 civic lx coupe and I知 wondering how to relieve the fuel pressure. I知 about to replace the knock sensor which involves removing the intake manifold and fuel rail.. I read somewhere that I can pull the fuse for the fuel pump and run the car until it stalls to relieve the pressure but I worry it could suck debris and varnish from the bottom of the tank.. is there a shrader valve I can use to relieve the pressure or can I just put a rag around the quick connect and remove it and catch any fuel that sprays out?

That's basically what the service manual says to do. It also says to remove the fuel fill cap first, then disable the fuel pump and run until the engine stalls. You won't suck up any debris from the tank, I'm confused as to why you think it would.

This is usually what I do. Mostly because the cars I work on either haven't run for a while or don't run. I don't pull that off immediately after the car was running, will have pressure built up.

Re: Fuel pressure relief

The service manual told me to remove the cap and hook up a computer to shut the fuel pump off. I didn稚 know if it would work the same way if I just pulled the fuse, I thought it may send a dealer code that I can稚 remove with my Matco scanner tool.. It would be a little easier if I could just put a rag around the quick connect and pull it and collect the gas with the rag, I won稚 have run the car for a day by that point and the pressure shouldn稚 be that bad.

it痴 a 14 year old car, I致e had bad luck in the past with older vehicles and running the pressure out and letting them stall.. if the sock on the pump is in bad shape when the pressure gets lower I致e had sediment from the bottom of the tank enter through a bad sock and clog injectors.. but that was on older systems like Cameros with crossfire injection and stuff like that.. I値l just let it sit over night and use a rag to capture the gas when I release the pressure at the quick connect, hopefully that値l be ok.

Re: Fuel pressure relief

I have never had a code that I could not clear and I use a cheapo blue-tooth dongle. Either way, you shouldn't have any issues.

Re: Fuel pressure relief

There are dealer codes that cannot be cleared and will stay as a pending code until a dealer scan tool is applied. These codes typically start with a 1 rather than a 0, like instead of P0300 it値l be p1300. At least that痴 been my experience, I can usually clear them with a Solus system but at Firestone they discourage us from clearing dealer codes due to liability at least at the one I work for.

Re: Fuel pressure relief

Thanks again for your advice, I really appreciate.. I壇 check alldata at work but Firestone is pretty strict about not using it for personal use. They monitor us and all that, when they check our productivity report if I知 looking up cars that haven稚 been entered into our system for repair then I have to make a Monday trip to the corporate office to be chewed out in a room with all the other people being reprimanded.. it痴 a drag..
thanks for the help

2006-2011 is pretty much identical. The last year of the 7th gen was 2005.

The vast majority of the manual will be the same. At some point you may find some minor differences but nothing major.
