Need Help - Replace 1993 Civic DX ECT Sensor
Re: Need Help - Replace 1993 Civic DX ECT Sensor
It's the only sensor sticking out of the thermostat housing. It has a 2 wire connector. The thermostat housing is where the lower radiator hose meets the engine block.
-Disconnect the 2P connector
-Unscrew the ECT
-Using a new o-ring, screw in the new sensor
-Reconnect the 2P connector
-That's it, you're done.

Lazlong,
Thanks for the instructions. I will check it out today.
One stupid question: given the location, do I have to drain the coolant before I remove the sensor?
Thanks again for the help.

Not sure if I have the right sensor ID'd
Lazlong,
I'm not sure that I have the right sensor ID'd. I found a copy of the service manual & I think the sensor I need to change out is the TW sensor. From the diagram it looks like that sensor is not sticking out of the thermostat housing. Am I right or nuts?

^^ Naw. You'll get a little leakage but, shouldn't be a lot. Just be sure to re-fill and burp the system if there is significant leakage. You'll need to burp the system regardless as you cracked the system open.
Re: Need Help - Replace 1993 Civic DX ECT Sensor
Cool. I just had the system flush & filled recently so that is good news.
I am a bit of a rookie at this, so when you say "burp the system" what exactly does that mean?

Success!
Lazlong,
Well I think you called it right. Had a helluva time getting the stupid switch off of the sensor and when I did, guess what? There was oil inside the switch and the end of the sensor. Asked my mechanic about it & he said it looked like the distributor had leaked and been replaced before I got the car.
At any rate, it's been a week now & now stalling at all. So many thanks for helping me with my quirky little Civic. Now maybe I can just enjoy driving the damn thing instead of futzing with it for all of these irritating issues. Next thing is to put a muffler on it (it's got a Thrush aftermarket that is noisy as hell) and then I'm done for a while.
