Head Gasket or New Engine
Head Gasket or New Engine
I have a 2009 Civic Lx. I have maintained from front to back over the past 10 years. it has 465000 miles.
I have recently had some coolant issues. Mechanics have informed me that it needs a head gasket. I have heard a new head gasket will force too much pressure on the old parts, and will blow the engine. Is that true?
I don't know if I want to invest $2500. to put another engine in it. Any advice?

[QUOTE=GolNat;4770748]Have never heard that before. Was your mechanic ok with replacing the head
It was he who said it would blow...so I didnt ask about them replacing gasket.

Re: Head Gasket or New Engine
I mean $2500 divided by 12 months is 200 which can be cheaper then a car payment. What is the car worth? Is it worth more to you then that? Do you absolutely love it and just want to keep driving it? You have certainly got your money out of it with that kinda mileage.
Never hurts to get another opinion. Not sure on the exact years but early 8th gen Civic's had engine block cracking issues that would cause coolant issues.
