Head Gasket repair or rebuilt engine

MY 2001 Civic LX popped a head gasket a few days ago. So its in the shop and I have a couple days to make some choices.

The first option is a head gasket kit, replace the water pump and timing belt for fun just because its the smart thing to do while the things apart. But what about other options?

Someone said I should consider getting a rebuilt engine as well. It may cost the same and it would basically be a new engine. I would love some advice soon so the repair shop can start on Monday and I can get back to driving.

Thanks.

I would do a headgasket its not hard just takes a lot of time. I did my on my 2001 and Im not a gearhead. The parts are not bad at all but make sure you take the head to a headshop to see if the head is warped.

Re: Head Gasket repair or rebuilt engine

So far thats the plan. The shop is going to do some prices on Monday but I'm a little cautious of this place but a few people I've spoken to seem to trust them.

A few people from work say that I should find an engine at a wrecker with low km and use that. Mine has 236,000 on it and if they just do a head gasket repair on it (and check the head of course) it will still be the same engine with 236 on it.

I'll call a few other shop and see what they say as well.

Thanks for your help, and any more advice is welcome.
