Headgasket problems
Headgasket problems
I have a 1998 Honda Civic DX 2 door hatchback with 154,600+ miles on it. The original head gasket was replaced at around 81,000 miles. It appears that I may need another head gasket. I understand that there have been head gasket issues with this particular engine. Are there any remedies that can solve this problem? Have there been any technical service bulletins (TSB) that anyone is aware of?
Re: Head gasket issues with D16Y7 engine
That was done when the original head gasket was replaced. I still have the original head gasket and it was coming apart at one end. Is this a consistent problem with this engine?

Re: Headgasket problems
That was done
By the way: Cylinder head needs to be measured for warpage again with this head gasket job too.
First head gasket lasted about 80k.
Next head gasket lasted almost 80k.
Sounds like you might expect about 80k from the next one. Fix it and go on.
In what manner did the first head gasket fail? What were the symptoms? Where exactly on the gasket is the failure point located?
In what manner has this head gasket failed? What are the symptoms? Where exactly on the gasket is the failure point located?
Was each head gasket failure caused by the head gasket itself.......OR
Was there a separate root cause of either failure, such as any sort of cooling system problem that could have led to a thermal event? (which could compromise the integrity of the head gasket).
Symptoms may take a long time to show themselves after an event, so don't discount something that happened more than a year ago either.
During the first repair, was the quality of the workmanship: Factory? Excellent? Average? Sub-par? Hack?
Is this a consistent problem with this engine?

Re: Headgasket problems
It turned out that I needed a new radiator instead of a new head gasket. I brought the car into the shop on Monday, March 4, 2019. The cooling system was pressure tested overnight. Then it was found to be a leaking radiator. I had the radiator replaced on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 and it appears that the head gasket is still good.
