d17 transmission with d16 engine

i have a 2004 non vtec civic lx 5 speed
and a 1999 civic ex auto
i know that the d16 stock has more hp vtech wise and the d16 has less miles i want to put the d16 from the 99 into my 04 with my 04 transmission i just rebuilt how can i make this work?

d17 rebuilt transmission i want to mate with this engine..

d16y8 engine in this car...

2004 civic lx manual transmission
i basically want to put a d16y8 into a 04 with the d17 trans so i dont have to mess with linkage and use same motor mounts and cv axles?

Re: d17 transmission with d16 engine

Way more of a pain in the *** than it's worth. The trans will work but there's so much custom crap involved to fit a D16 in a 7th gen chassis, not to mention the legalities associated with it. You'll need the D16 to be at least as good on emissions as the D17 you'll be removing, and I'm not sure that it would be. Either way, it's too big a pain in the ***, especially for the sake of maybe 10hp. It would make more sense to K-swap or boost than it would be to drop a D16 in. I'm not sure it'd be all that much more expensive, either.

Re: d17 transmission with d16 engine

Be alot less work to put the trans in the 6th gen. Which is a much better chassis, and platform for modding. Still not worth it.
Starter is in the exact same spot, so maybe more/better research is needed
You can get a used trans for under $150

What state do you live in? The legalities of it are what's stopping you.

As long as you don't have any emission testing you can but like others said it won't be easy.
