Difference between d16 engine and d17 engine

I was wondering what the differences were between the d16 and the d17. I know the d17 is more displacement of course and that it has direct ignition. I was more wondering about cam profile and internal parts. There are performance cams for the d16 but nothing that I have found for the d17. Was wondering if I could use those. If not, does anyone know of cams or other performance parts for the d17.

Thanks,
Kevin

i don't believe ANY performance parts are interchangable bewteen the d16 and d17. Off hand the only difference i know besides displacement is compression ratio.

D17A2 9.9:1 <-- 2001 EX
D16Y8 9.6:1 <-- 2000 EX

well after doing some research, turns out we have the same bore, so pistons MIGHT be swapped.

Our throttle body is on the top of the intake manifold, while the d16 is on the side. So intake manifold, throttle bodies and intakes can't be swapped.

I doubt something precise like cam shafts would be interchangeable

Do a search on D17A2. A thread i started a while back for the same info. There are others interested also...

BTW you can get custom grinds done for your cam. Crower & Gude are 2 places willing to do so

2001 VTi Philippine models have a D16 engine on it. its throttle is also on top of the manifold and produces 127hp. headers and other bolt-ons fit our engines. Most of the parts here are imported from the US which has the D17...

please, write whole nubers not only D17 and D16.
There are too much D16 engine in hondas !!!

In Europe we have D16V1 suposedly identical to D17A2 except the rods, but not 100% sure. I am looking for a new Electronic parts catalog to see in the head has the same catalog number.

pistons cannot be swapped.

The closest motor to the D17 is the D16a (ZC)

----------D17-------D16A(ZC)
C-C------5.394------5.394
BE Bore---1.890------1.890
BE Thick---.780-------.892 Width of the Bearing surface on the rods are different
PE Bore----.748--------.748
(mm)-------19--------19
PE Thick---.900--------.710 Width of the top of the rod for the wristpin is different

Those are enough to make the parts non-interchangable.

The only way to run a D16 piston in a D17 would be to have a custom rod made.

also, the D16 tranny will bolt onto our motor. You would have to build a custom shifter and linkage.

I already tried it, but scraped the project due to lack of time.
