Greaser with joints
Greaser with joints
OK. I searched all over the forums and I see conflicting information and a bunch of old thread so I’m asking it here.
what kind of grease goes in the ball joints tie rod ends and sway bar mounts. I got an aftermarket kit from Detroit axle, no judgment please. This car is 20 years old already. I just don’t want to make the stuff deteriorate faster than necessary.
i’m seeing NLGI number two seems to be the right stuff. I called Detroit and they went online and looked it up, no real help there.

Re: Greaser with joints
Genuine Honda replacement ball joints and tie rod ends don't have grease zerk fittings, no way to add the wrong grease.
If installing aftermarket, ordinary chassis grease in a grease gun.
Rubber sway bar bushings? Hondas bushings were installed dry.
If you meant aftermarket sway bar links with grease zerks, use the same chassis grease.

Re: Greaser with joints
the ones that are specific are the ones to be careful. The transmission fluid in the 7th gen are engine oil grade... very low viscosity. yeah, i was surprised when i saw in the owners' manual.
you can get yours here
power steering was tricky too?

Re: Greaser with joints
Thanx. I got prices from the dealer for the ATF and power steering fluid, no big deal there. My 96 civic manual, I probably went 500k miles and changed the transmission flui maybe four times? I might’ve gotten another 200k if I did it more often. Oh yea, never changed rear brakes nor clutch either. ‘‘Twas a little beast.
