Stretched CV Joint

Hi,

I tried to put my passenger side drive shaft back into but ended up stretching the inner CV joint and now the boot has a "dent" in it. it turns fine but the boot looks out of shape, do you think it's still fine? I'll upload a picture in a bit.

Re: Stretched CV Joint

As long as you didn't pull it out far enough for the joint to fall apart, just squeeze the folds of the boot to put it back in shape.

If you feel hard lumps inside, then the joint lost a roller and you need to get it reassembled correctly before going any further.

I think the rubber boot when back into shape, everything is back in now and I took the car for a drive and it feels fine apart from a new knocking sound coming from the suspension which I hear every now and then when going bumps in the road. Any ideas?

If the CV joint did fall apart, do you think the car would still be drivable?

*insert pic of Carnac here*

No, just the usual stuff. Recheck all of your work carefully if the noise is brand new.

Check the front LCA bushings, sway bar links, the regular ball joints and tie rod ends, and the struts themselves.

If the CV joint did fall apart, do you think the car would still be drivable?
Probably yes, but with a horrible shake. I got a cheapo reman axle for an American car once that was completely missing one of the rollers and it drove, but shook like hell.
