01 LX basic brake replacement? [solved]
01 LX basic brake replacement? [solved]
Hello all,
Just purchased a 2001 LX with 100k miles in overall great condition. It does need a few things replaced soon, including the brakes. I haven't checked them yet but I am pretty sure they are almost all the way worn out and I am also getting very slight vibrations when I apply the brakes.
I am looking for a very simple and economical OEM performing replacement...nothing performance oriented. I don't need drilled or slotted rotors or anything like that. I remember using a set of Powerstop brakes for an old Jeep I once had and I was pretty happy with the results.
I found this on amazon for $100-some dollars which seems to fit what I am looking for. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with these or can suggest a comparable alternative? Again looking for simple/stock/OEM style performing brakes and nothing fancy. This is gonna be a stock car for commuting only.
Thanks!

They'll be fine, as long as you're not buying the cheapest stuff possible you shouldn't have any problems

power stops are good.
r1concepts are really good bang for buck, too. Slapped a set of r1 concepts brakes on my friend's car to use her as a guinea pig, and it saved her *** when she was going 75 down the freeway at night and braked to minimize damage from a brush guard on the road. Only damage were condensers and a fan. Bonus, they almost always have coupon codes out there
granted, I got her cross drilled and slotted rotors for kicks and a set of their ceramic pads bc that's the setup I'm looking at for my car, but front set shipped was $120 after a coupon code. Was $160 before coupon code, which still isn't bad
edit: speaking of which, coupon code for the weekend is 25% off "JULYDEAL"

Maybe I've just had bad luck with Powerstop, but I can't recommend them currently.
-Bought a set of front calipers for my Civic, they worked okay for 5 years before the boots were ripped and pistons seizing. I wasn't impressed with a life of 5 years but didn't give up on them right away.
-Bought a set of rotors/pads for my MDX, maybe 2 months later I feel the brake pedal pulsing during braking.
-Bought a set of rear calipers for my Civic, the park brake continually stuck on one or both sides (purchased before the above had issues). Got a warranty set, same thing happened. Ended up getting a full refund and kept one of the sets. Found the pin that holds the park brake release spring in place was not fully seated on all four of the calipers. This caused it to bind and the park brake to stick. Ended up keeping that set on the car after my "fix". A year later when replacing pads, I found the rubber boot around the caliper piston was torn on both sides.

Ended up going with a basic Powerstop rotor and pad kit from Rockauto for $75 + shipping.
Installed it a couple days ago without issue and to my surprise the old pads still had a lot of life left. The rotors were probably warped though.
Tried to break them in properly and so far no more vibrations and the brake pedal is a lot firmer than before.
Also bled the fluid with Prestone synthetic DOT 4. Hopefully that is ok and I didn't have to use DOT 3?
Thanks for all the advice.
